Some gamers might mistakenly believe there is no reason to invest heavily in the Bounty Hunter in Darkest Dungeon 2. Since he can only be recruited at one Inn and lasts only until the next Inn, this can feel like investing in a temporary hero who will end up taking off.
But ignoring the Bounty Hunter is a mistake. As a temporary hero, he can give a hero in dire need of rest a break which is something that will happen often in Darkest Dungeon 2. Plus, with the right build, the consistent damage that the Bounty Hunter is capable of dishing out is second to none.
Skills
- Mark For Death
- Collect Bounty
- Come Hither
- Finish Him
- Uppercut
The Bounty Hunter can be played as a ranged damage dealer but the entire point of the class is to stand in for somebody who is beat up. Usually, the character absorbing the blows is on the frontline. So it's best to build with that in mind.
The Bounty Hunter starts out mastering all skills automatically, so he won't be taking any mastery points away from the team. And he doesn't need them with these abilities. He marks enemies for combos and then unleashes devastating attacks, stuns, and debuffs on these tagged enemies.
Path
- Professional
Unlocking and choosing hero paths is something that requires a great deal of thought for most heroes but the Bounty Hunter gets his path for free. The important thing to know about Professional is that it has a 50% chance of not using up a combo token.
This means the Bounty Hunter should be the one to get the first dibs on any combo token since there is a good chance another combo token will replace it. The skills selected for this build capitalize on either placing combo tokens or delivering a huge blow on an enemy with a combo token.
Trinkets
- Indelible Crime Lords' Molars
- Indelible Vengeful Kill List
The Bounty Hunter gets his unlocked trinkets when he's hired at an Inn which makes his trinkets a core part of the build. Unlike other classes, his trinkets do not have drawbacks, enabling the Bounty Hunter to deal colossal damage without needing to farm specific items.
With these two trinkets, the Bounty Hunter deals more damage and cuts through resistances. The Indelible Vengeful Kill List gives the Bounty Hunter an extra 3% in damage every time he kills an enemy. When this gets stacked, he's easily one of the best heroes in the game.
Combat Item
- Wilbur's Flag
The Bounty Hunter is capable of applying combo tokens and occasionally does not use them up. But sometimes he will and waiting for an entire round after applying another combo token will result in taking a nasty hit. Wilbur's Flag will apply a combo token and permit the Bounty Hunter to attack.
On tougher Confessions, Ordainment can be rough to deal with. Enemies with higher health can get in several strikes against the player's group before going down. Instead of letting that happen, put a combo token on them and deliver a stun or outright kill in the same turn.
