Dark Souls 3 has a lot of weapons that players can use to their advantage to decimate their enemies. While some are small and based on Dexterity, others are massive and require incredible amounts of Strength to wield them properly. And there are even weapons for Faith and Intelligence builds, so every player has an option.
One of the most iconic weapons in the Dark Souls franchise is the Moonlight Greatsword, which has not only made an appearance in every title of the trilogy, but also in Elden Ring. Despite its size, this weapon does not require unbelievable amounts of Strength, but rather a high Intelligence Stat, so if your character’s is low, you’ll want to farm Souls to increase that. Here’s how to get the Moonlight Greatsword in Dark Souls 3.
Dark Souls 3: Best Build for Sellsword Twinblades
The Sellsword Twinblades are a great starting weapon in Dark Souls 3. Here's how players can optimize their builds around it.
How To Get The Moonlight Greatsword
As opposed to a few other weapons in the game, the Moonlight Greatsword cannot be purchased from a vendor, and you won’t be able to get it until the late stages of the game, when you finally gain access to Lothric Castle. As you explore the castle, you will come across a large garden full of vicious enemies that you'll have to either fight and defeat or carefully avoid so as not to die. If you're successful, you will reach a boss fog that will pit you against Oceiros, the Consumed King.
This boss is formidable not only because of his vicious attacks, but also because of his interesting lore, so fans of the franchise should definitely look into it. When you manage to defeat Oceiros, you'll get the Soul of Consumed Oceiros, which is necessary to get the Moonlight Greatsword. Go to the Firelink Shrine and give Oceiros’ Soul to Ludleth of Courland so he can use the Transposing Kiln and give the mighty weapon to you. The Moonlight Greatsword requires a whopping 26 Intelligence Stat to wield properly, so if you have a suboptimal Stat allocation, you’ll want to respec your character accordingly
Dark Souls 3: Best Build for Onyx Blade
The Onyx Blade is a great weapon on its own in Dark Souls 3. However, it becomes exceptional when paired with the right build.
Which Stat Is Best To Upgrade With The Moonlight Greatsword?
The Moonlight Greatsword only scales with Strength and Intelligence, and neither scaling is particularly great. For Strength, the weapon has a scaling of “E”, and for Intelligence, a scaling of “C”.
To make the most out of this weapon, you’ll want to increase your Intelligence Stat as much as possible and combine the use of the Moonlight Greatsword with spells. This build isn’t the most comfortable or popular, but if you really want to wield this mighty weapon, it’ll have to do.
