Actor Daniela Melchior will appear in the upcoming Marvel Studios film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Melchior made her English-language debut last year in director James Gunn's DCEU film, The Suicide Squad.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, Karen Gillan, Elizabeth Debicki, and new cast member Will Poulter, who will play Adam Warlock. Gunn recently confirmed on Twitter that filming has wrapped on the film. Gunn also directed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, as well as last year's The Suicide Squad, which starred Melchior in a leading role.
As reported by Deadline, Melchior will be featured in a small role in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film. There is currently no information as to who or what she will be playing, but Deadline has confirmed that she will not be playing the character Moondragon, as some fans have speculated. In The Suicide Squad, Melchior plays Ratcatcher 2, an original character created by Gunn for the film. Ratcatcher 2 has the ability to control and manipulate street rats, sometimes to deadly effect. Her father was the first Ratcatcher and is seen briefly in flashbacks, played by Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi. Even though she's not from the comics, the character fits in perfectly with the band of misfit villains turned heroes due in large part to Melchior's engaging performance and Gunn's signature dark comedy writing style.
Gunn also recently teased the involvement of an unannounced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Actor in the film, but according to Deadline, that actor is not Melchior. Some fans speculated that John Wick actor Keanu Reeves would be cast in an undisclosed role, but as per Deadline, he is not the mystery actor either. Melchior's casting announcement is just the latest role the Portuguese actress has landed. She is also set to star in the upcoming tenth Fast and Furious film Fast X, as well as Assassin Club with Henry Golding and Marlowe starring Liam Neeson.
While it's unclear whether the Guardians will appear in further MCU projects, Gunn has stated that this will be his final film with the intergalactic superhero team. The writer/director has stated that the third film will complete the story he originally envisioned. Actor Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the Guardians films, has also expressed his desire to move on from the role. While the third film is a long way off, Gunn and the cast will also reunite for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is set to premiere on Disney Plus late this year. Melchior is not confirmed to be appearing in the Holiday Special.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will premiere in theaters on May 5th, 2023.
