A select subset of gamers got away with an incredible deal on Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition by complete accident. CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 is still a very popular game, and finding it for this low a price brand-new typically doesn't happen.

Cyberpunk 2077 has had a very complicated history ever since its first announcement. Players had been anxiously awaiting its launch since 2012, only for Cyberpunk 2077 to release in 2020 with numerous bugs, glitches, and problems, especially on last-gen systems like the PS4 and Xbox One. Everything from class-action lawsuits to en masse refunds were lobbed at CD Projekt Red in the aftermath, but the game has ultimately become a major success after significant updates and patches fixing the game. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition eventually made its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, which is where this accidental discount was found.

An analyst claims CD Projekt Red will release new Witcher 3 DLC and offers insight into when the studio's other in-development titles may come out.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition Gets Major Discount By Mistake

On December 22, Nintendo kicked off its Hits for the Holidays sale, discounting both first-party and third-party games for the Switch and Switch 2 platforms. One of the games included in this sale was Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which saw a massive 75% discount, bringing the price down to just $17.99. Considering the Ultimate Edition includes the base game, DLC, and the updates the game received over the years since its launch on other systems, this was too good a deal for many gamers to pass up. However, it turns out that the discount wasn't intended to be that high.

On Twitter, CD Projekt Red shared an official statement regarding the Nintendo eShop's pricing, and stated that an error was made when choosing the discount. The mistake has now been remedied, with new discounts in place for both Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and fellow CD Projekt Red game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition. Gamers who go looking for Cyberpunk 2077 on the Nintendo eShop now will find a new price listed of $39.99, which is still a sizable discount from its normal listing price of $69.99. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition, on the other hand, is on sale for $14.99.

Early on, some had suspected that the cost of Cyberpunk 2077 was too good to be true. For comparison's sake, the lowest the price of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition has ever been cut to on Steam is $33.11, and it's currently included as part of the ongoing Winter Steam Sale for $38.62. The good news, however, is that those who already purchased Cyberpunk 2077 for the Nintendo Switch 2 at its unintentionally generous discount will be able to keep the game at no additional cost.

How Did Cyberpunk 2077 Get Such a Huge Discount by Accident?

While CD Projekt Red hasn't offered an official explanation as to how a discount this big got offered by mistake, it seems as though it was likely just a matter of inputting the wrong discount values for the two games. Initially, Cyberpunk 2077's $17.99 discount was a 75% reduction from its normal price, whereas The Witcher 3 was initially discounted from its normal price of $59.99 to $34.49, marking a 42% discount. Now that CD Projekt Red has fixed the problem, Cyberpunk 2077's new sale price is 42% off, while The Witcher 3 is now at $14.99, or 75% off. It seems as though whoever set up the sale on CD Projekt Red's end put in a 42% discount for The Witcher 3 and 75% for Cyberpunk 2077, the reverse from what the company actually wanted.

While some players are lamenting the fact that they missed out on the steep discount, the good news is that it's still on sale for a considerable bargain. Players have also been pleased to discover that Cyberpunk 2077 performs well on the Switch 2, and the title's Switch 2 version has received generally favorable reviews from critics, as well.
