Cyberpunk 2077 was meant to be one of the biggest video game launches of the year, but its release has been mired in controversy. Due to a slew of technical issues and bugs plaguing the game, particularly when playing it on a base PS4 or Xbox One console, refunds have been offered to consumers who purchased the game through digital marketplaces. But now that refund offer is extending to those who bought Cyberpunk 2077 at a physical brick-and-mortar store as well.

It's unclear exactly how easy it will be for consumers to refund their Cyberpunk 2077 physical versions at retail stores, though Best Buy has already said it will be accepting refunds for the game. Anyone interested in getting a refund for their physical copy of Cyberpunk 2077 should try to do so by December 21, or else it may be much more difficult to get done.

This announcement by CD Projekt Red is just the latest development in the ongoing Cyberpunk 2077 refund controversy. After widespread fan complaints about the game, CD Projekt Red stated that it would allow upset owners of the game to get a refund if they wanted, though this announcement was apparently made without any kind of deal in place with Sony or Microsoft. This led to some more issues, eventually culminating with Sony pulling Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store until the issues could be ironed out.

Xbox has not pulled Cyberpunk 2077 from sale, but it has decided to extend its refund policy. For a limited time, those who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally can get a full refund for the game through Xbox without all the usual restrictions and rules that apply to asking for a refund.

The negative publicity surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 has dealt a devastating blow to CD Projekt Red's stock price, and seems to have soured many fans on the company. With time, Cyberpunk 2077 could have a big comeback like has been seen with past games that have had disappointing launches, but time will tell.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions coming in 2021.
