Cyberpunk 2077 fans who are looking forward to this year's Summer Game Fest will be pleased to know that CD Projekt Red, which has already been announced as a guest at the event, will be showing off the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC. While the main game itself was considered one of the most disastrous launches in all of gaming, that idea is slowly becoming a distant memory. It's no secret that Cyberpunk began life with a sour reputation, but things are thankfully different these days.
Having been developed by the same team behind the successful Witcher series, not to mention Cyberpunk 2077 being promoted by Hollywood star Keanu Reeves, who also plays a significant character in the game, the dystopian open-world title was hugely hyped up before release. Now that the game is in a much better state, thanks to a series of major patches, fans are looking forward to what's coming in Night City.
Many have been anticipating Phantom Liberty, the first major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, and the developer recently announced that this DLC will be featured at Summer Game Fest. A post on CDPR's Twitter account specifically mentions that the new content will be part of Play Days, which means invited guests will be able to play some of the upcoming story. Whether the general public will be able to experience Phantom Liberty at the event remains to be seen at this point, so it may just be limited to the media for now.
Summer Game Fest 2023 kicks off on June 8 and, much like previous years, will be a chance for many studios and publishers to showcase what's coming up. Along with CD Projekt Red, other developers scheduled to be at the event include Capcom, Dead by Daylight's Behavior Interactive, Square Enix, Niantic Labs, Developer Digital, along with plenty of other industry leaders. Summer Game Fest will take place in YouTube Theater, a 6,000-seat venue in Los Angeles, and it will be both an in-person and online event.
As for the DLC itself, Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty will feature a brand-new story, as well as a new cast of characters, including one played by Idris Elba. At the time of writing, there isn't an official release date for the upcoming content, other than that it's scheduled to release sometime in 2023. Hopefully, its appearance at Summer Game Fest will prompt CDPR to finally announce when it will be coming out.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
