Despite launching back in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 fans think they have uncovered a new Easter Egg related to Hideo Kojima's upcoming title OD. This upcoming horror title is the result of a collaboration between Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios and was officially revealed at The Game Awards 2023. However, players revisiting Cyberpunk 2077 think that the dialogue spoken by Kojima's cameo character in the game might be alluding to the development of OD, which means this Easter Egg teaser wouldn't have paid off for at least another three years.

Cyberpunk 2077 is famous for its celebrity appearances, with the game's most iconic being Keanu Reeves' portrayal of Johnny Silverhand, and the Phantom Liberty expansion added to this star-studded cast by introducing Solomon Reed, who was portrayed by Idris Elba. Beyond these celebrity appearances, Cyberpunk 2077 is filled with cameos from other minor celebrities, such as content creators Jesse Cox and CohnCarnage, as well as musical artist Grimes. Hideo Kojima's cameo in Cyberpunk 2077 might be the most mysterious since he can be easily missed and his character's cryptic dialogue seems to shed new light on OD's development.

Cyberpunk 2077's Kojima Easter Egg May Be More than Meets the Eye

In order to find Cyberpunk 2077's Hideo Kojima Easter Egg, players will have to be on the lookout during The Heist main mission in the game's first act. During this mission, V and Jackie infiltrate Konpeki Plaza in order to steal the Relic from Yorinobu Arasaka, going undercover as Militech representatives in order to do so. When players first enter Konpeki Plaza, they are led to the hotel's bar for an optional drink before heading to their assigned room, and players who take a moment to explore the bar will find the character Hideyoshi Oshima, modeled after and voiced by Hideo Kojima.

If players stay a moment and listen to what Oshima has to say, they will notice he says some things that sound a lot like what the real-life Kojima might discuss. He mentions wanting to push the boundaries of what braindances are capable of doing in Cyberpunk 2077's world, saying that he is working with a team in Tokyo to capture and convey real, raw human emotions in his braindances. While BDs are a fictional medium limited to Cyberpunk 2077's universe, the details Kojima discusses in this dialogue sound like they could apply to his philosophy of game development.

How Kojima's Easter Egg in Cyberpunk 2077 Might Have Teased OD

Although at the time Cyberpunk 2077 was released, most fans who saw this cameo might have just assumed Kojima's character was speaking generally about his views on developing media and entertainment in the modern age. However, the luxury of hindsight gives this dialogue a whole new meaning when viewed after the reveal trailer for OD was released. The desire to capture real, raw human emotions that Kojima's character discusses in this Cyberpunk 2077 Easter Egg seems eerily similar to the footage that was shown in OD's trailer at The Game Awards 2023.

This trailer cycles through a series of characters reciting a strange phrase, seeming to become visibly more uncomfortable as the trailer goes on before the final shot shows one character letting out a genuinely terrified-sounding scream. The pacing of this trailer and the scenes it depicts line up almost exactly with what Kojima's Cyberpunk 2077 character was discussing in his cameo. In this cameo, Kojima goes on to say that he wishes to showcase complex emotions woven together, such as happiness and melancholy, and calm with an underlying anxiety, potentially hinting at some of the themes that the developer will present to players in OD.
