The release date for Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC might have been leaked, and it could be coming sooner than many have predicted. CD Projekt Red previously delayed its planned story DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 on account of the game’s infamously bug-ridden launch, and eventually Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was formally announced during The Game Awards 2022 with a trailer featuring Hollywood A-lister Idris Elba as the mysterious FIA agent Solomon Reed.
Since this pulse-pounding Cyberpunk 2077 DLC trailer, CDPR has been rather quiet about when fans can expect to try out this upcoming expansion for themselves save for a vague launch window of sometime in 2023. A recent social media post revealed that the developer is planning to offer a special “hands-on” experience for press members and content creators during the upcoming Summer Game Fest, with players supposedly being able to demo Phantom Liberty before it launches in full. However, a new leak seems to suggest that Cyberpunk 2077’s first and only story-based DLC could be arriving as early as next month.
Earlier this week, Polish gaming podcasters Rock and Borys discussed Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in their latest episode, which was then translated by Reddit user SpaceSimGuy on r/cyberpunkgame. Borys claims that Phantom Liberty could be released sometime between June 8 (which is the date of Summer Game Fest) and early July, citing an older report that this window was set internally at CDPR. He also claims that his inside contacts at CDPR have told him that Phantom Liberty is progressing well, and that the expansion will come out roughly a month after the release date is announced.
There has naturally been a lot of speculation from players about what Phantom Liberty will add to Cyberpunk 2077. It is already known that V and Johnny Silverhand will explore a new section of Night City called Dogtown, which is so overrun by crime and corruption that Reed suggests simply burning it to the ground at one point. Meanwhile, Night City Radio will have new music and stations for players to listen to as they travel the mean streets of Dogtown, and some rumors have suggested that Falco from the hit Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime could appear.
As with most gaming rumors, it probably would be best to take Rock and Borys’ claims about Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty’s release window with a grain of salt until more substantial information comes forward. If these rumors are true, then players might get to see more of the brutal Night City as soon as next month’s Summer Game Fest livestream.
Cyberpunk 2077 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The Phantom Liberty DLC is due to launch exclusively on current-gen consoles sometime in 2023.
