One Cyberpunk 2077 player has recently stumbled upon a silly demolition derby-style event that repurposes an otherwise mundane Watson location into Night City's very own bumper car arena. The unusual sight appears to be tied to one of Cyberpunk 2077's Vehicle Contracts, meaning it can only be encountered by players who own Phantom Liberty.
Vehicle Contracts are a type of Side Gigs introduced in the first and only paid expansion for CD Projekt Red's dystopian RPG. Although unlocking them requires completing Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty's Push It to the Limit quest in Dogtown, the new DLC area, the missions themselves take place all over Night City.
While pursuing one such contract, Reddit user Athena_Olympia2077 came across a silly bumper car arena featuring three Makigai MaiMai P126s. As seen in the footage of the event, it would appear that some members of Maelstrom and Scavengers in Cyberpunk 2077 can decide to duke out their differences by holding a tiny demolition derby in the eastern part of Watson.
While Athena_Olympia2077 isn't the first Cyberpunk 2077 player to come across this silly bumper car arena, the fact that their footage of the event recently made the front page of the game's largest subreddit suggests many fans were still unaware of it two months following Phantom Liberty's critically acclaimed release. Based on some past player reports, it would appear that the humorous demolition derby is tied to El Capitan's Vehicle Contract tasking V with stealing the Makigai MaiMai P126. The bumper car arena should hence only spawn while that quest is active.
Cyberpunk 2077 Bumper Car Arena Location
- The demolition derby-style event is seemingly triggered by El Capitan's Makigai MaiMai P126 Vehicle Contract.
- The bumper car arena thus likely cannot spawn before the player visits Dogtown in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and unlocks Vehicle Contract missions.
Although the Makigai MaiMai P126 is the slowest vehicle in all of Cyberpunk 2077, its tiny frame and high handling clearly make it an ideal bumper car substitute. As for the unique demolition derby featuring this compact economy vehicle, the event itself appears to go indefinitely if the player doesn't interfere with it. Of course, doing so will be required for completing El Capitan's MaiMai P126 Vehicle Contract. The best way to approach this mission isn't any different from the generic Vehicle Contract strategy, which is to eliminate any nearby threats before commandeering the target car or bike.
Another useful trick for completing this Side Gig is to keep reloading the game until the mission's randomly generated bonus parameters become doable. Namely, the Makigai MaiMai P126 isn't a great getaway vehicle, so employing save scumming tactics can be preferable to spinning wildly in Cyberpunk 2077's traffic because El Capitan demanded the car to be delivered in an unreasonable time frame.
