Cyberpunk 2077 fans should mark September 21 on their calendars, as that's the date when the game's 2.0 update is scheduled to drop, CD Projekt Red has confirmed. The much-anticipated release will hence arrive just five days ahead of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, the RPG's first and only expansion.
As was the case with the last several patches, the 2.0 version of the game will only be available on the current-generation consoles and PC. Namely, CDPR stopped supporting Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4 and Xbox One in September 2022, with the 1.6 update being the final release for the last-gen systems.
And while the studio previously hinted that the 2.0 version of the RPG might debut alongside Phantom Liberty, its newly shared teaser for the update has now revealed that the patch will actually arrive on Thursday, September 21. This should provide the game's existing owners with some time to play around with everything included in Cyberpunk 2077's 2.0 update before deciding whether to shell out for its $29.99 expansion at launch, assuming they haven't pre-ordered it already. Much like all of the RPG's past patches, the 2.0 update is entirely free.
The update's release date announcement offers a brief video recap of most of the features that will be included in the upcoming version of the game, including a redesigned perk and Cyberware system. A new Relic skill tree is also part of the package, allowing V to essentially weaponize their Cyberpsychosis by drawing from Johnny Silverhand's abilities.
A revamped police system and vehicle combat that have been prominently featured throughout Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty trailers are both part of the 2.0 update, as well. The new combat mechanics won't just extend to the ability to shoot from vehicles and leverage their built-in weaponry like a cyberpunk version of 007, although there'll be plenty of that, as well. However, players who prefer to role-play as netrunners will also be able to hack their way through traffic and even weaponize other vehicles with a wide array of new Quickhacks that wouldn't feel out of place in a Watch Dogs game.
As for the police system changes, the 2.0 update will stop law enforcement in Cyberpunk 2077 from spawning out of thin air, and will instead have them behave in a more realistic fashion. Nearby officers will hence start responding to distress calls and even set up roadblocks if the player decides to take their rampage on the road.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
