Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves has revealed he would "absolutely" return to the role of Johnny Silverhand in the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel if given the opportunity. Reeves is best known for his work on the big screen, notably as Neo in The Matrix, John Wick in the John Wick series, and John Constantine in Constantine, among many other roles. But in 2020, the actor made the leap into the world of video games with his portrayal of Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077.

Today, Cyberpunk 2077 is considered an all-time great RPG, but things haven't always been that way. When CD Projekt Red first revealed Cyberpunk 2077 to the world in 2013, it quickly became a hugely anticipated title, largely due to the studio's previous work on The Witcher series. Unfortunately, upon its eventual release in 2020, it became clear that Cyberpunk 2077 was not ready to be released. The launch was so catastrophic that the RPG was pulled from the PlayStation Store due to its performance issues on the PS4. Thankfully, CD Projekt Red remained committed to rectifying the issues with a steady stream of new content updates, and it's now some of the studio's finest work.

Keanu Reeves Is Open to Reprising His Role as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2

After years of hard work, Cyberpunk 2077 is now in a significantly improved state, which has allowed CD Projekt Red to move forward with a sequel currently titled Cyberpunk 2. Details on the project are still being kept tightly under wraps, so it's unclear which characters from the first game could be returning for its sequel. However, Johnny Silverhand actor Keanu Reeves recently told IGN that he would "love" to play the character again in Cyberpunk 2. "Absolutely. I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again," the beloved actor told the publication when asked if he would be interested in reprising his role as Silverhand.

CD Projekt Red Shouldn't Let Its Cyberpunk 2077 2.3 'Disappointment' Impact Project Orion

If Reeves were to return to the role, it would likely be quite some time until fans receive any official confirmation. Currently, CD Projekt Red's top priority appears to be The Witcher 4. Although the company has multiple studios tackling various projects, a recent update from CD Projekt Red revealed that a total of 444 developers are currently working on the next Witcher game, and 116 on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. There's no confirmed release date for either of the two titles, but The Witcher 4 is likely to launch in either 2026 or 2027, which means Cyberpunk 2 will probably arrive closer to 2030 (although this is just an educated guess).

While details on the highly anticipated sequel are pretty sparse right now, it was recently claimed that Cyberpunk 2 will ditch the iconic Night City. Earlier this year, Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG that 2077 is based on, let it slip that players will visit "another city" in the sequel, suggesting that it will be leaving Night City behind. Although Pondsmith was heavily involved in the original Cyberpunk 2077, he has admitted that he isn't as involved in the sequel, but does visit CD Projekt Red from time to time to see how Cyberpunk 2 is progressing.
