When it comes to the Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings 3, players are usually more interested in taming and riding CK3 AGOT's dragons than slaying them. However, as soon as they want to play as a non-Dragonriding House, they will quickly realize that it's best to know how to kill them unless they are content under the yoke of the Targaryens.
Thankfully, there are a few ways to kill dragons in CK3 AGOT, although all options are just as dangerous and unreliable as the last. It's no joke; killing a dragon is extremely hard in the mod.
Crusader Kings 3: 6 Things To Know About Dragons In The Game Of Thrones Mod
Fans have a lot to look forward to with CK3 AGOT's Dragon update, and there is a lot to learn about these fiery beasts.
How To Slay Wild Dragons In CK3 AGOT
Wild dragons in CK3 AGOT are untamed and unowned by any owner of a Dragonpit. They will occasionally roam, flying to new areas, but typically they stay close to their starting location. A tamed dragon can become wild again if its rider dies, and it isn't held in a Dragonpit.
To find Wild Dragons, use the Manage Realm Affairs decision and select the Dragon option.
If players are intent on slaying these wild dragons, they will want to pin them, so that their location can be seen in the top-right corner. A wild dragon can only be slain when it flies into the player's land, where it will temporarily make a lair.
Gaining Dragonlore Knowledge In CK3 AGOT
Before players set out to slay a dragon in CK3 AGOT, they will want to obtain Dragonlore knowledge, as this will increase their chances of success. To do so, players will need to visit Sites of Draconic Significance, especially the Citadel.
- The Citadel
- The Field of Fire
- Hill of Rhaenys in King's Landing
- Dragonstone
- Summerhall (If the tragedy has already happened)
The easiest way to do this is to plan a pilgrimage to Oldtown and alter your travel route to pass through these locations. Upon arriving, a simple event will pop up. Dragonlore is also crucial for hatching eggs in CK3 AGOT after all dragons have died out.
The Dragonslaying Event In CK3 AGOT
Once players have enough Dragonlore, and they have been alerted to the presence of a wild dragon in their lands, it's time to slay. To initiate this event, right-click on the dragon for the option. Upon doing so, players will be told that they have a chance to find the dragon's lair, a chance to find nothing, as well as a chance for the dragon to find them first.
Try to seek out smaller and weaker dragons who have a lower Combat Effectiveness.
If they are unable to find the dragon, they can try again in around a year if the dragon is still local. For those who find the dragon or are found by a dragon, the event will begin in earnest.
Crusader Kings 3: Best Dragons In The Game Of Thrones Mod
Dragons in CK3 AGOT come in many different varieties, with the best of them being much stronger than others.
In the dragon duel event, players will be presented with the chances of being wounded, burned, and dying for each action. If they are able to survive a few of these rounds, they will eventually get options where there is a slim chance of slaying the dragon.
Don't be afraid to back out at any time! Seeking out a dragon is still great for roleplay in CK3.
Having a high Prowess score raises the odds of success, but even the greatest knights in Westeros history will always be more likely to die than slay a dragon. High Intrigue also means players might have the opportunity to poison their blade, and those with high Learning can attempt the use a storied mirror shield from the lore.
Ambushed By A Wild Dragon In CK3 AGOT
It is also possible to get ambushed by a dragon in CK3 AGOT while traveling through an area where a wild dragon has nested. This event triggers just like any other travel danger event, and it is usually best to plan trips away from a dragon's territory.
Crusader Kings 3: 15 Best Starting Rulers For The Game Of Thrones Mod
For fans interested in experiencing the CK3 AGOT mod for Crusader Kings 3, these are the ideal rulers to start with.
In the case of a dragon ambush, players will have a choice to fight or flee, although even when attempting to flee there is still a chance of death. Choosing to fight initiates the same dragon duel event as the one when players actively seek out a dragon to slay.
The Dragonslayer Trait In CK3 AGOT
If players manage to slay a dragon, they will be well rewarded with the Dragonslayer Trait and 'The Dragonslayer' nickname. They will also claim the dragon's skull as a prize. Unfortunately, the various bonuses from the skull can only be gained by displaying it in the Red Keep.
The Dragonslayer Trait not only provides Prowess, Prestige per month, Dread Gain, and General Opinion, but it also increases the odds of slaying another dragon in the future.
How To Kill Dragons In War In CK3 AGOT
A single brave warrior on a mission for instant glory is not the only way to kill a dragon in CK3 AGOT. Entire armies can attempt to do so in war. First of all, when a dragon is used in sieges, it is under increased threat. Nevertheless, it's not advisable to wish to be sieged by a dragon.
Crusader Kings 3: 10 Things You Should Know About The Game Of Thrones Mod
The anticipated CK3 AGOT is here for Game of Thrones fans to enjoy, and these are some things that players should know about the mod before playing
In battles, dragons always have a chance of being killed, and in CK3 this essentially comes down to luck. However, by specializing in Anti-Dragon Warfare, a realm's chances can be increased.
Anti-Dragon Warfare & Scorpions
Anti-Dragon Warfare is an Innovation that allows a culture to build Scorpions as Men-at-Arms units. Scorpions are purpose-built for bringing down dragons, making them essential for any side lacking these huge fiery beasts. The Innovation also allows players to build Scorpion Emplacements, where they can station their Scorpions to help them deal even more damage against dragons.
The Anti-Dragon Warfare Innovation is already unlocked by all Dornish cultures who, in the 82 AC & 106 AC start dates, have yet to join the fold of the Iron Throne. Other cultures will have to spend years researching the Innovation. In terms of using Scorpions, players will simply want to build lots of them and make sure they are in the army facing off against a dragon.
Dragon Vs Dragon Duels In CK3 AGOT
For those lucky enough to be a Dragonrider themselves, another way to kill dragons in war is to fly into battle and hope for a duel in the sky. Players will need to make sure they are part of the army in question, and they need to make sure they haven't disabled the use of their dragon in war.
Crusader Kings 3: Best Dragon Traits In The Game Of Thrones Mod
Dragons have their own Traits in CK3 AGOT, affecting their personality, effectiveness in combat, and how easy they are to tame and control.
In a battle with dragons on opposing sides, there is a small chance for the Enemy Dragonrider Spotted event to trigger. From here, players can elect to flee or fight. There's also a Sky Ambush event where the enemy dragon rider spots the player first.
Even if players attempt to flee, the opposing dragon and rider might chase them, initiating a fight.
The duel works similarly to standard duels in Crusader Kings 3, with players choosing between options that can increase or decrease their chances of success. The options typically depend on the rider's Personality Traits, but success comes down to the Combat Effectiveness of the dragons and their personalities.
