CK3 AGOT is a Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings 3, and dragons are easily the most exciting feature of the mod. Just like human characters in CK3, dragons have their own personalities and over time they age and grow. The stats for dragons are Health, Dragon Size, Combat Effectiveness, Draconic Dread, Temperament, and Taming Chance. Typically, the higher, the better, although both negative and positive values for the Temperament stat can be useful.
Crusader Kings 3: 6 Things To Know About Dragons In The Game Of Thrones Mod
Fans have a lot to look forward to with CK3 AGOT's Dragon update, and there is a lot to learn about these fiery beasts.
These stats and personalities are mostly determined by Dragon Traits. As with normal CK3 Traits, some of these are congenital and passed down to offspring, while Personality Traits are acquired during the formative years. Many Traits have advantages and disadvantages, but the best Dragon Traits in CK3 AGOT, have overwhelming positives and sometimes no downsides. Players will want to know about these Traits, not only for choosing their next dragon but also for creating one, as Traits can be chosen.

8 Voracious
Personality Trait
- Temperament: -5
- Draconic Dread: +4
- Taming Chance: +9
- Dragons with the Voracious Trait: Cannibal, Sheepstealer, & Syrax
The Voracious Trait for dragons in CK3 AGOT is an interesting one, as it doesn't sound good at first. However, because dragons with this Trait have larger appetites, they are easier to tame, as potential riders can bring them livestock to eat.
Riding an always-hungry dragon into battle will certainly strike fear into the hearts of enemies, and can lead to some funny scenarios.
7 Aggressive
Personality Trait
- Draconic Dread: +10
- Temperament: -12
- Taming Chance: -10
- Combat Effectiveness: +10%
- Dragons with the Aggressive Trait: Vermithor, Caraxes, Sheepstealer, Tessarion
While the Aggressive Trait for dragons does have two downsides, the fact that it makes a dragon harder to tame has no effect on characters who start out as Dragonriders. For example, players could play as King Jaehaerys Targaryen atop Vermithor or as Daemon Targaryen who rides Caraxes.
In both of these cases, the Trait quickly becomes all about the bonuses to Draconic Dread and Combat Effectiveness. Few riders or would-be-slayers will attempt to take on such a dragon.
6 Majestic
Congenital Physical Trait
- Health: Small Boost
- Rider Prestige: +1 per month
- Dragons with the Majestic Trait: Sunfyre
The Majestic Trait is easily one of the rarest, with only Aegon II's future dragon Sunfyre being declared beautiful enough to bear it. The small boost to Health is naturally a welcome addition, but the extra Prestige is arguably even better for the rider.
Crusader Kings 3: 15 Best Starting Rulers For The Game Of Thrones Mod
For fans interested in experiencing the CK3 AGOT mod for Crusader Kings 3, these are the ideal rulers to start with.
In times of peace, this bonus to Prestige far outweighs any improvements to Dragon Size or Combat Effectiveness. Prestige can be used for numerous decisions and big upgrades, such as unlocking new Cultural Traditions. The Majestic Trait can also be passed onto offspring as it is inheritable.
5 Noble Dragon
Education Trait
- Temperament: +12
- Taming Chance: +20
- Dragons with the Noble Dragon Trait: Silverwing, Syrax, & Sunfyre
All dragons have an Education Trait, ranging from 1 star to 5. Noble Dragon is the best of these and provides a huge boost to Taming Chance, making life easier for any would-be-Dragonrider.
With +12 to Temperament, noble dragons are also more friendly to humans and even other dragons. This makes them more pleasant to be around in everyday life, but unfortunately, does not provide many benefits for combat.
4 Fertile
Congenital Physical Trait
- Fertility: +50%
- Dragons with the Fertile Trait: Dreamfyre, Silverwing, & Syrax
While the Fertile Trait won't help in combat or make a dragon more fearsome, it is nevertheless great for any ruler thinking beyond the present. With +50% fertility, dragons will not only be more likely to lay eggs each year, but each clutch should also include more eggs.
This will ensure that the player's dynasty never runs out of dragons, making them an ever-present threat in Westeros. Dragon eggs in CK3 AGOT can be hatched by sending them to a family member to cradle. Just right-click on a character for the option.
3 Calculating
Personality Trait
- Combat Effectiveness: +10%
- Taming Chance: +5
- Temperament: +10
- Dragons with the Calculating Trait: Balerion, Dreamfyre, Caraxes, Grey Ghost, Syrax, & Seasmoke
Out of all the Personality Traits for dragons, Calculating is easily the best as it provides three buffs with zero downsides. First of all, players looking to become a Dragonrider in CK3 AGOT will have a slightly easier time with +5 to Taming Chance.
The increase in Temprement also means the dragon is more likely to heed the player's wishes, and they can expect more positive interactions through events. Best of all, however, is the 10% increase in Combat Effectiveness.
2 Swift
Congenital Physical Trait
- Health: Huge Boost
- Combat Effectiveness: +15%
- Dragons with the Swift Trait: Meleys & Tessarion
For those looking to take their dragon into battle and win wars as quickly as possible in CK3, the Swift Trait is unmatched. It not only provides a huge health boost, but it also increases Combat Effectiveness by a whopping 15%.
Crusader Kings 3: Best Minor Houses For A Game of Thrones Mod
This Game of Thrones-themed Crusader Kings 3 mod lets players live out their GoT fantasies. Here's which minor houses are worth playing.
Just like CK3's best Congenital Traits for human characters, the Swift Trait can also be passed down to baby dragons.
1 Tyrannic Leviathan
Congenital Physical Trait
- Health: Massive Boost
- Dragon Size: +30%
- Dragons with the Tyrannic Leviathan Trait: Balerion & Cannibal
Many dragons in CK3 AGOT have a Health Trait, and these can be negative, such as the Pitiful Wyrmling Trait, or they can instead provide huge boosts to Health and Dragon Size. Tyrannic Leviathan is the greatest of these, and any dragon with this is instantly a force to be reckoned with.
As Congenital Traits, the great thing about Tyrannic Leviathan, or the slightly worse Great Drake and Fearsome Wyrm Traits, is that they can be passed on to create a dynasty of epic dragons. It should also be noted that Dragon Size affects other stats, such as Combat Effectiveness.
