Crunchyroll subscribers from Mega and Ultimate Fan tiers will gain access to free games via the newly introduced Crunchyroll Game Vault, and five titles will be available to start. Crunchyroll is one of the best anime streaming platforms out there, and now gamers will gain a new reason to subscribe.

Crunchyroll started in 2006, and it has been expanding its services since then. The platform has a selection of over 1,000 anime movies and TV titles, some of which are accessible for free. Also, Crunchyroll is currently available for Amazon Prime Video subscribers as an add-on channel.

The latest change in Crunchyroll is the addition of the Crunchyroll Game Vault, which will initially come with five games: Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery, Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions, Inbento, River City Girls, Wolfstride. This newly announced library of games will only be available to fans who subscribe to the Mega Fan tier ($9.99 monthly) and the US-only Ultimate Fan tier ($14.99 monthly), though.

The selection of games in the Crunchyroll Game Vault clearly leans toward Indie games with anime aesthetics and offers a nice mixture of genres, including RPG, beat-em-up, tactical action, visual novel, and puzzle. From the announced titles, River City Girls is one of the clear standouts, being an excellent beat-em-up game for fans of the genre that spawned a popular sequel.

It’s important to note that not all users will gain access to the Crunchyroll Game Vault at the same time, though. Crunchyroll states that it may take a few days before the functionality is available in all regions, and some features will be “released incrementally to ensure stability.” Also, it’s not entirely clear yet for how long these titles will be available on the vault and when the catalog will change or add more options.

People who use Crunchyroll but do not subscribe to the tiers that will gain access to the Game Vault won’t gain any free games, but will at least have new services available. Crunchyroll recently announced a 24-hour free anime channel. The idea of the project is to introduce anime to new audiences, as they don’t have to pay to use the service and will include some older but popular anime titles like Code Geass, Psycho-Pass, and Ranking of Kings, for example. At the moment, the channel will only be available in the United States.
