While mega-popular shooters such as Call of Duty and Fortnite usually dominate the conversation when it comes to the most popular shooter series in the world they actually are not the biggest. That crown goes to the CrossfireX series thanks to its extreme popularity in countries outside the U.S., especially in South Korea. While Xbox has been touting its exclusivity partnership with Smilegate for the launch of CrossfireX and its single-player mode across its systems (including Xbox Game Pass), it seems things have gone awry. Since launch, problems with the multiplayer package have abounded, along with a single-player portion glitch that still hasn't been resolved as of this writing.
Since its launch, on February 10, CrossfireX has been taking a handful of hits as its multiplayer portion has received some pretty bad first impressions from critics and gamers alike with controls that are stiff and just not nearly as smooth as its contemporaries. Players have also been critical of the total lack of maps and just general playability of the entire game. On the single-player side, one of two of CrossfireX's campaigns were supposed to be free with Xbox Game Pass, but as of this writing, a glitch still persists barring many from experiencing it.
In response to the chaos of CrossfireX's launch, developer Smilegate has issued a statement to fans and gamers alike saying that the studio acknowledges that it has let its players down. Smilegate goes on to say that while video games will always contain bugs and glitches, the developer realizes that there are problems with the core fundamentals of CrossfireX. While Smilegate is working hard to mitigate many of the issues that plague the military shooter, the developer pointed out three key improvements that it is focusing on: controller sensitivity issues, balance improvements for the "Boogieman," and an ADS issue with the CAR-4.
In the past week, Smilegate has also promised that more customizable aim settings are set to be released, as well as a fix for sliding problems. The team is also working to add even more maps to the Classic and Modern multiplayer modes. In addition, the fix for the one campaign for Xbox Game Pass should be releasing pretty shortly as well.
CrossfireX's launch woes certainly has put a sour taste in many fans' mouths, but it seems as if Smilegate has pretty quickly moved to focus on certain objectives and make sure the shooter can end up being the best that it can be. It remains to be seen if CrossfireX can really become a big hit for Xbox, but with some fixes here and there, the military shooter may stand a chance.
CrossfireX is available now for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
