From Travis Willingham’s lion man and Laura Bailey’s fairy to Whitney Moore’s pink tiefling and Marisha Ray’s bearded lady, Critical Role’s next Dungeons and Dragons campaign parties look to be full of characters who are as interesting as they are gorgeous.

Campaign 4 of Critical Role is shaking things up in some extremely significant ways. Career DM Matthew Mercer is stepping into the role of the player alongside a dozen other stars, with Dimension 20’s Brennan Lee Mulligan helming a West Marches-style Critical Role game set in a brand-new world.

All Critical Role Campaign 4 Player Characters

With the fourth campaign starting in just a couple of weeks, Critical Role has pulled back the curtain on the cast of characters viewers will get to know over the next few years. Mercer himself is playing a human swashbuckler named Sir Julien Davinos, while Marisha Ray is Murray Mag’Nesson, a buxom harlequin dwarf. Laura Bailey’s fairy rogue Thimble and Travis Willingham’s Teor Pridesire, an imposing lion-like humanoid, will also take the stage, alongside Taliesin Jaffe’s doll-like Bolaire Lathalia, Ashley Johnson’s drow cleric Vaelus, Liam O’Brien's charming orc Halandil Fang, and Sam Riegel’s stunning Wicander Halovar.

  • Aabria Iyengar – Thaisha Lloy
  • Alexander Ward – Occtis Tachonis
  • Ashley Johnson – Vaelus

  • Liam O'Brien – Halandil Fang
  • Luis Carazo – Azune Nayar

  • Whitney Moore – Tyranny

As for the five newcomers outside the core cast of Critical Role, Whitney Moore is playing a pink tiefling nun named Tyranny, while Aabria Iyengar is an orc witch named Thaisha Lloy. Alexander Ward’s well-dressed Occtis Tachonis and Robbie Daymond’s Kattigan Vale bring animal companions along with them, with the former’s adorable foxes and the latter’s imposing wolf. Lastly, Luis Carazo’s Azune Nayar appears to be a knight infused with storm-based powers.

The exact Dungeons and Dragons classes for these characters are not known, but context clues from their art, as well as some emojis shared by Critical Role about the new heroes, can give a few hints. For instance, Tyranny appears to be a Cleric, Sir Julien a Fighter, Vaelus a Cleric, Occtis an Artificer, and Kattigan a Ranger. Fans will probably have to wait until the characters appear in the campaign and start using their class features to find out exactly what builds each of the stars chose for their Campaign 4 heroes.

Gamers interested in catching Campaign 4 can do so every week on Thursday at 7 PM PT starting October 2 on Twitch, YouTube, or Critical Role’s Beacon streaming service. Unlike Campaign 2 and 3, this new Critical Role story requires absolutely no previous knowledge of the past Exandrian campaigns, so now is the perfect time for new fans to tune in and enjoy a fresh tale on the same playing field as veteran viewers.
