Critical Role has revealed tons of new information about its upcoming fourth campaign, including a massive cast of 13 different players spread across three tables. Core Critical Role cast members like Matt Mercer and Laura Bailey will be joined by new faces, including Luis Carazo and Aabria Iyengar, on their next Dungeons and Dragons adventure.
During the live show in Indianapolis, Critical Role surprised fans with some big reveals about its fourth campaign. For the first time in its history, Matt Mercer is not running the main Critical Role campaign, with Brennan Lee Mulligan taking over as the DM for a game set in a brand-new world.

Now, Critical Role has pulled back the curtain even further on its upcoming campaign. It recently shared a video sharing more details about Campaign 4, including that it would be using the revamped 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons 2024 rules, rather than its new Daggerheart TTRPG system. However, the most shocking reveal was that the game would consist of 13 players, not including Mulligan as the DM. The full core cast of Critical Role will be joined by Luis Carazo, Robbie Daymond, Aabira Iyengar, Whitney Moore, and Alex Ward as permanent players of Campaign 4. Fans should be aware that there is some profanity used in the announcement video.
Having 13 players at the table all the time would be logistically tough, so Critical Role will be approaching this campaign using the West Marches TTRPG framework. The cast members will be split into three groups of players as they spread across the world, each with their own journeys and themes. Though the exact groups have not been revealed yet, Mulligan referred to the different tables as combat-focused Soldiers, the lore-heavy, adventurous Seekers, and the political intrigue of the Schemers.
The world of Campaign 4 is called Araman, a brand-new setting seemingly completely unconnected to Exandria. The story takes place 70 years after the godlike Shapers were overthrown and slain by the mortals of the world, causing magic to become wild and unpredictable. The setting seems to be full of fantastical creatures, dark mysteries, and wondrous locations.
Fans can catch the first episode of Campaign 4 on October 2 on Critical Role's Beacon streaming service, and on Twitch and YouTube, after which it will air every subsequent Thursday, barring holidays and off weeks. Every other Critical Role campaign has been an epic, multi-year journey that has lasted for over 100 episodes – and with a huge cast of characters, there is no reason to believe Mulligan’s campaign will be any different.
