First released on the PSP in North America back in 2008, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is a remastered and enhanced version of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7. This spin off title serves as a prequel to help tell the story of Cloud's friend, Zack Fair, while helping to set the scene for Final Fantasy 7.

As opposed to being a turn based RPG, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is an action RPG. As is standard in most Final Fantasy games, players are able to level up as they defeat enemies and progress through the game. This guide will show players how they can level up quickly in case they are struggling and need a little boost to their stats.

How Leveling Up Works

Even since the original version of the game, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is notorious for its unique slot-machine mechanic called DMW (Digital Mind Wave). This system is constantly running automatically as players fight groups of enemies. The effects are random, but the DMW gauge provides helpful benefits like buffs and unlocking Limit-Break abilities or summons that can help turn the tide of battle if things are not going well for players.

This system is also how players level Zack up. As is mentioned in the tutorials for the game, experience points are earned but cannot be seen by players. Instead, this hidden experience point value influences the odds of getting three 7s in a row on the DMW gauge. When this happens, players will level up provided they have gained enough experience points. As a result, leveling can feel like a frustrating process for players since it seems random when it happens.

How to Level Up Fast

While Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion players can only do so much about the random nature of leveling up, there are certain ways to increase the chances of leveling up more frequently. Since gaining experience points increases the chances of getting 7-7-7 in the DMW gauge, players will want to fight as much as possible to get lots of experience points even if they can't see how many they currently have.

Since there are hundreds of side quests that can lengthen the run time of the game, players will have countless opportunities to kill enemies as they go through these optional missions and rack up experience points. Typically, any mission that throws lots of enemies at players will be a good method of gaining enough experience to level up more frequently. Especially further on in the game when players unlock a side mission that has them fight 1,000 Shinra Troops.

Unfortunately, there are no accessories that players can equip that will increase the amount of experience points they gain from killing enemies. That said, there are plenty of powerful accessories that will give players an edge if they are doing tougher missions to gain experience points.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is available now on PS4, PS5, Steam, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
