Hollow Knight: Silksong features crests, a unique way for players to change up Hornet's moveset and give her special abilities to suit their playstyle. The
Beast Crest offers an animalistic combat moveset for Hornet, while giving her a life-stealing ability. The crest greatly enhances your attack power as well, and encourages a more high-risk, high-reward playstyle. If this is something you would want to equip and give it a test run, here's how to get it in Silksong.
All Hollow Knight Silksong Crests (List and Locations)
There are seven crests in Hollow Knight: Silksong and two special Vesticrests. Here's where to find them all and which crests are the best.
The Crest of Beast Location in Silksong
Players can get the Beast Crest early on in Silksong by traveling to the Hunter's March area. Before you go there, make sure to get the
Drifter's Cloak by completing the Flexile Spines quest in Far Fields. Once you've received the float ability, travel to the bottom-right corner of the area (marked on the map above).
Once you enter the marked cave, you'll find the entrance to the Chapel of Beast. Move to the right and use the air current to float to the higher platform. You'll spot that the gate to the left is closed, and you'll need to do a bit of platforming (to the right).
So, pogo off the red orchids on the right and float up, followed by a slow descent using the float ability while avoiding red thorns on the left.
You'll eventually enter the other side of the locked gate, where you can simply hit the switch to open it up. Now keep going left, and you'll encounter the Savage Beastfly boss.
After taking the boss down, head to the chamber on the left to interact with a statue, and get the Crest of Beast after binding.
Should You Use the Beast Crest in Silksong?
The Beast Crest is a unique combat-focused crest that will boost the Hornet's damage and give her a new claw-like attack moveset. Players can equip this rest to demolish foes in combat. It also changes the bind mechanic, which instead activates the Wild Fury mode. This is a (sort-of) beast mode where Hornet gains even more attack damage and can steal life to heal herself with each hit she lands.
While the Crest of Beast in Silksong is a great offensive crest, it has its downsides. The first downside to using the crest is that Hornet's downward strike becomes way more angled than default, making it a lot harder for players to complete the sections that require po-going off objects.
The change to the binding mechanic can also throw off players, as it won't immediately heal you. This will require players to completely change their combat strategies and switch to a more aggressive playstyle.
The best recommendation in the case of the Beast Crest is to only switch to it right before a section with either a lot of enemies or a boss fight. After that, you can switch back to any other crest, like the Crest of Wanderer, so you can easily complete those platforming challenges in Silksong.
