Creative Console Is Ditching the F2P Model, But Can Still Be Claimed for Free

All of that is set to change this fall when Creative Console is set to become a paid game. But Steam users who add it to their libraries before that happens won't have to purchase it afterward, JJS Games has confirmed. The studio plans to transition Creative Console to a paid game on September 26. It is currently unclear whether the game will also leave Steam Early Access on that date. Elaborating on the reasons behind the monetization model switch, the developer explained that attaching a price tag to its first-ever title will help it continue delivering high-quality content updates.

Creative Console Promises Rewards for Early Adopters

JJS Games has yet to disclose how much it intends to charge for Creative Console from late September 2024 onward. Developers who withhold such information ahead of release often do so because they intend to offer regional pricing in order to make their titles more accessible across the globe. Whether that's also the case with Creative Console remains to be seen. In the meantime, JJS Games said that those who start playing its debut title ahead of its transition to a paid product will receive "special thanks and rewards." Details on the latter are planned to be announced in-game in the coming weeks.

As for what is actually on offer here, Creative Console offers players a chance to design their own games using an intuitive interface. Engaging with community-made games awards star coupons, which can in turn be spent on packs of assets called Creative Cards. The current version of the game comes with bundles that are categorized by both genre and theme, with these groups including everything from platformer and puzzle packs to ocean and universe collections.

Becoming an outstanding game designer, creating unique levels and gameplay with unlimited creativity awaits you.

While this overall premise sounds conceptually similar to the likes of Roblox and Super Mario Maker, JJS Games says that it didn't set out to create a clone of any particular title. Instead, the studio aims to deliver a unique experience that is continuously shaped by player feedback during its early access period. Players with a penchant for tinkering could hence find Creative Console to be well worth their time, especially while it's still free to claim.
