A funny mod has added Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the Democratic Party's nominees for President and Vice President respectively, to Crazy Taxi. The Crazy Taxi mod lets the two democrats drive the taxi, complete with voice lines and amusing references to the path to election.

Crazy Taxi has seen something of a resurgence in gamers' minds lately due to it getting a revival from Sega. While the full details of the game have yet to be revealed, leaked development footage and information from developers indicate that the game will be a massively multiplayer driving game. While fans wait for more of the revival to be revealed, the classic game has also received attention in the form of a new mod.

Edward La Barbera has released a new mod for Crazy Taxi that adds both Kamala Harris and Tim Walz into the game as playable taxi drivers. The mod recreates the likenesses of the Democratic Party White House candidates and has pulled audio from their DNC speeches to give them speaking lines in the game as they drive around and pick up passengers. However, the modder didn't stop there. The mod also adds a Minnesota environment (referring to Walz's current Governor position), a polling place drop-off point, and refers to the money earned as campaign donations and time remaining as time left until the election.

Why Mod Democratic Candidates into Crazy Taxi?

While games have featured Presidents and politicians in the past, some might wonder why the modder would choose this game in particular for the two. The answer is actually more about Walz than Harris. During his time as a high school football coach, Walz reportedly told athletes that he had at one point been so hooked on the Dreamcast that his wife had to hide it from him. In another story, according to IGN, Tim Walz brought a Dreamcast to his campaign office as a donation when he was running for Congress, which allegedly had Crazy Taxi in it. The apparent fascination with the ill-fated Sega console has seemingly charmed a lot of retro gamers.

Obviously, this mod isn't official in any capacity and hasn't received any acknowledgment from the nominees at this time. Unfortunately, the mod has to be played via an emulator, rather than on an actual Dreamcast like Walz once owned. For players who are looking to revisit the game before the next iteration of Crazy Taxi releases, though, this might be an amusing opportunity to freshen up the experience.
