Control 2 Can Tie Remedy Universe Together With One…

Control 2 will mark a pivotal point for the Remedy Connected Universe after Alan Wake 2. The pieces of this interconnected universe of games are starting to come together with the revelations brought forth by Control, its DLC, and Alan Wake 2 and its DLC, making it likely that Control 2 will cement important overarching plot points going forward. As such, there is one mysterious character that has become increasingly prevalent in Remedy games who could hold the key to tying the universe's narrative together.

Very little is currently known about Control 2 other than it is in development at Remedy. Without significant plot details available, it's hard to predict how the sequel to the mind-bending narrative of Control will play out. However, based on the Control connections present in Alan Wake 2 and its DLCs, there are some clear areas that could be explored in Control 2, and the enigmatic Warlin Door could be at the center of this narrative.

There are a lot of questions about Control 2, but avoiding an issue predecessor Alan Wake 2 faced already seems to be confirmed.

Warlin Door is a Chekov's Gun that Could Fire in Control 2

Door is an Obvious Throughline for the Remedy Connected Universe

Though largely portrayed as neutral in nature, Alan Wake 2 makes it clear that Warlin Door is far more than meets the eye. Door is an entity capable of interdimensional travel and knowledge of the multiverse who appears to Alan as the host of the in-universe talk show In Between With Mr. Door while Alan is trapped in the Dark Place. While he plays a significant role in Alan Wake 2, Door has appeared in past Remedy games, making him a prime candidate to connect the entire universe together.

It's never outright confirmed but heavily implied that Warlin Door is Saga Anderson's missing father in Alan Wake 2.

Although Alan Wake 2 marks Door's first on-screen appearance, the character's roots can be traced back through Remedy's previous titles. In Control, Dylan Faden mentions his encounter with a man calling himself Mr. Door, whom he met in a "dark place" and revealed to him the existence of the multiverse. Although it's unclear if they are meant to be the same character, Quantum Break's Martin Hatch bears a striking resemblance to Warlin Door, including having very similar names that both allude to different types of entrances, with it seemingly likely that the two are alternate reality version of each other.

Lance Reddick, who portrayed Martin Hatch, was originally planned to play Warlin Door prior to his passing, establishing an even greater connection between the two characters.

Why Warlin Door Becoming a Villain Seems Inevitable

Though mysterious, Warlin Door doesn't appear to have villainous intentions in Alan Wake 2's base game. And Dylan even mentions in Control how the Mr. Door he met prevented him from releasing the Hiss into the multiverse. However, the nature of some of Door's multiversal counterparts leaves a clear trail of villainy that could make him, or a parallel version of him, the perfect villain for Control 2.

If Martin Hatch and Warlin Door are indeed one and the same, then the character is no stranger to villainous ways. Alan Wake 2's Night Springs DLC also suggests Warlin Door has a penchant for villainy, with the Time Breaker episode showing that Door's multiverse-traveling abilities allow him to exist as a villain in one universe as he chases down the Actor he believes is responsible for destroying the different parallel versions of himself. With this history established, Control 2 could be the perfect game for Warlin Door's true nature to emerge, perhaps as a parallel version of himself trying to complete what Dylan had once attempted and unleash the Hiss onto the multiverse.
