When it initially released in 2001, Conker's Bad Fur Day was unlike anything else on the market. The game, which ended up being Rare's final title for the aging N64, was a big departure from what the esteemed British developer was known for. Normally, Rare had a reputation for making exceptional, all-ages titles, the majority of which perfectly suited Nintendo's family-friendly branding and target audience. Conker's Bad Fur Day, on the other hand, was anything but kid-friendly. On the contrary, it was raunchy, vulgar, and M-rated in every manner imaginable. With this title, Rare turned the 3D platformer genre on its head and delivered an experience filled to the brim with adult humor and heavy doses of violence, profanity, and alcohol.
Though it may be considered a cult classic nowadays, Conker's Bad Fur Day was sadly a commercial failure when it came out, in large part due to its niche appeal, lackluster marketing campaign, and release at the tail end of the N64's lifespan. Because of this, outside of a remake of the title for the original Xbox, Rare never returned to the world of Conker following the release of Bad Fur Day. Given that it's been more than 20 years since Bad Fur Day's debut, it seems unlikely at this point that Xbox will ever greenlight a sequel to the acclaimed 3D platformer. While this is unfortunate, Conker fans do at least have one upcoming game to look forward to that could scratch their itch for a spiritual successor to the franchise: Gori: Cuddly Carnage.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a 3D Platformer With a Gory Twist
Created by independent Swedish developer Angry Demon Studio and published by Wired Productions, Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a hack-and-slash platformer with a cartoony appearance that features a lot of violence and mature humor, just like Conker. This upcoming title follows the adventures of a synthetic cat named Gori and his two companions, the sentient hoverboard F.R.A.N.K. And the sour-tempered AI CH1-P. The game takes place in a cyberpunk world where humanity has been wiped out by evil toys called the 'Ultra Pets,' and it's up to this eclectic trio of characters to stop them from taking over the galaxy and killing Professor Y, one of the few humans left alive on Earth.
Although the game's protagonist is an anthropomorphic cat and the enemies featured in it are essentially stuffed animals, Gori: Cuddly Carnage is by no means kid-friendly. Like its title suggests, this hack-and-slash has no shortage of brutal violence and gore. As players make their way through hordes of bloodthirsty, mutated 'Ultra Pets,' they'll be dismembering them with all kinds of weapons, including swords and explosives. On top of all this, the game features "razor-sharp" adult humor, foul language, hoverboarding parkour segments, and a multi-genre soundtrack, according to the developers.
Gori: Cuddly Carnage Could Be Just What Conker Fans Are Looking For
Gori: Cuddly Carnage may not be a one-to-one replica of Conker's Bad Fury Day, as it doesn't share the same exact gameplay style and setting of the acclaimed Rare title, but, as an adult-oriented 3D platformer featuring anthropomorphic animals, it's probably the closest fans will get to a Conker sequel for the foreseeable future. Luckily, Gori: Cuddly Carnage isn't too far away from release, as it's set to come out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, GoG, and Epic Games Store on August 29, 2024.

Conker's Bad Fur Day was developed by Rare and was released in 2001, a time when mascot platformers were flooding the market. As such, when people saw the front cover of Conker's Bad Fur Day in stores, they assumed it would just be another wholesome platform game.
However, Conker's Bad Fur day is a hilarious satire of platform games that is full of adult humor and innuendo.
