Summary

  • Physical copies of Concord are seemingly still available for purchase at a handful of electronics stores.
  • One electronics store is selling Concord discs at full price, even though the hero shooter is unplayable right now.
  • There is some speculation over Concord making a comeback as a free-to-play game with reworked monetization.

Concord shouldn't be available anywhere right now, but one gamer recently discovered physical copies of the disgraced live-service shooter listed at full price in their local electronics store. Sony rescinded Concord entirely from the market and took the game offline just two weeks after launch, which means these full-priced physical copies are quite literally unplayable at the moment.

As one of the biggest commercial flops in PlayStation's 30-year history, Concord debuted to less than 700 players on Steam and was estimated to have sold around 25,000 copies in the two weeks it survived on the market. Given the rumors of Concord costing $400 million to develop, this was a disastrous turnout. Concord was promptly pulled offline and its diminutive player base was refunded, and developer Firewalk Games has since gone dark on future updates, with no indication of whether the embattled hero shooter will return.

Sony quickly vanquished Concord from players' digital libraries, but recalling physical copies is seemingly not that easy, as evidenced by a recent post in the Gaming subreddit from user krisskriss02. As it turns out, their local electronics store didn't get the memo for the Concord recall and is still selling physical copies at the game's $40 launch price, with the final value rounding out to approximately $41.6 after taxes. The user added that the store had five of these Concord copies in stock, and that they couldn't ask anyone about them.

Concord Discs Still Being Available in Some Stores May Be Good News for Collectors

It's definitely a breach of ethics if the store is aware of Concord's mass shutdown and is still selling the physical copies. Their value as games is currently zero and any unfortunate soul who unwittingly picks up a physical copy of Concord is essentially paying for a hollow plastic box. Conversely, this could be a handy find for collectors who want to snag a Concord disc in case the game never returns and is deemed "lost media." Bigger retail chains like Target have mostly cleared out their Concord stock, so smaller electronics stores are likely the only saving grace for these dedicated collectors.

Concord's future is extremely uncertain, but there's a tiny sliver of hope for the hero shooter's small but ardent fanbase. Recent updates to Concord's Steam backend may hint at a comeback for the game, possibly in a free-to-play capacity and with a reworked monetization system. However, only time will tell whether these changes can overturn Concord's image in the eyes of gamers.
