Doom: The Dark Ages is set to be one of the biggest releases of May, and fans of the long-running action-packed franchise could be in for an exciting treat. The Doom franchise is no stranger to over-the-top heavy metal action, but Doom: The Dark Ages aims to take things to the next level with its medieval-focused setting.

May in general is filled with some great options. As spring begins to come to an end, a lot of studios are planning to close the season with a bang. Doom: The Dark Ages may be one of the stars of the month, but a strong roster proves that May 2025 may have even more to offer than May 2024.

Whether one's in search of a remaster, a fun indie story, or a major AAA offering, May 2025 has it covered. While there is a lot of diversity on the list, two of the most anticipated are Doom: The Dark Ages and Elden Ring Nightreign. The latter was announced at the 2024 Game Awards, and as a multiplayer counterpart to the massively successful Elden Ring, it's closing out the month strong.

The biggest difference between last year and this year is that May 2025 has two more releases on the schedule than in 2024. While both years feature a mix of AAA and indie titles, this year still has the upper hand in technically having more to offer overall, especially for fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

A strong roster proves that May 2025 may have even more to offer than May 2024.

Doom: The Dark Ages will be a day one launch for Xbox Game Pass.

Doom: The Dark Ages and Elden Ring Nightreign Stand in the Spotlight, While The Midnight Walk and Palia Bring Indie Charm

Two of the most prominent indie titles on the schedule are The Midnight Walk and 2023's Palia, which is finally coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Palia has proven itself popular among cozy fans, and The Midnight Walk promises a beautiful stop-motion tale.

Last year saw indie stories like Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 and Hades 2 in the same company as juggernauts like Ghost of Tsushima, which proves to be a compelling parallel between the two years.

The Midnight Walk features over 700 hand-sculpted clay models.

2025's Roster Continues to Grow

The most exciting thing is that May 2025 is merely the tip of the iceberg of what's to come. Games like GTA 6, Ghost of Yotei, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond still wait on the horizon. May is a strong enough year on its own, but it might simply be an appetizer.
