There are several ways that players can deal with incoming attacks in Code Vein 2, and one way is to parry them. That said, players do not have the ability to parry attacks by default, and they must take some preliminary steps if they want to gain access to this defensive option. This guide is here to elaborate upon that statement, and it will help players parry in Code Vein 2.
Other defensive options include blocking and dodging.
Code Vein 2 Dials Up Everything for a Bigger Soulslike Sequel
Code Vein 2 expands on the foundation of the first game, offering more freedom and flexibility in combat with a variety of weapon types and abilities.
How to Parry in Code Vein 2
Get & Equip Parry Equipment
The first step towards parrying attacks is obtaining a piece of equipment that is capable of initiating a parry. Players can claim such a piece of equipment, a Mutinous Bracer, very early in the game by speaking with a Jadwiga's minion in MagMell. More specifically, this minion is in the short hallway just past the room with the NPC that can upgrade weapons and the NPC that can transform weapons, and the images that are above should make it easy for players to locate them.
Players will have their first opportunity to speak with this Jadwiga's minion when they visit MagMell in the past as part of the Mastering Control of Time quest. This occurs not long after starting the game, which means that players do not have to wait long to gain access to parrying.
After obtaining the Mutinous Bracer, players should open the Field Menu and select the Defensive slot. Players can then select the bracer to equip it, and they will be ready to start parrying attacks once that is done.
The Mutinous Bracer is certainly not the only item that can be used to parry, and players may come across combat formae and Jails that are capable of parrying attacks as they continue through the game.
Timing
With the Mutinous Bracer equipped, players can parry an incoming attack by pressing L1/LB just before the attack comes into contact with their character. If this input is timed properly, the attack will be deflected, preventing any damage to the player and breaking the enemy's stance. This gives players a good opportunity to go on the offensive, and two successful parries in often enough to leave an enemy staggered.
Not all attacks can be parried and will instead be blocked with correct timing.
One final thing to mention is that a successful parry with the Mutinous Bracer consumes ichor, a combat resource that is represented by the number above the stamina bar and is used when executing combat formae. That said, players can still break enemy stances with parries when they are out of ichor, but they will not prevent the incoming damage.
