Players can give gifts to NPCs in Code Vein 2, and there are two primary reasons for them to do so. Specifically, NPCs award Trading Points when they receive gifts, which can be used to buy things from their shops, and gifts also lead to increased affinity with the characters. This guide is here to provide details about how gift giving works in Code Vein 2, and it will give players a solid understanding of the feature.

While gifts play an important role in increasing affinity with NPCs, they alone are not enough to reach maximum affinity and earn the Irreplaceable achievement.

How Gift Giving Works in Code Vein 2

Every NPC in Code Vein 2 has an opinion on every valuable item that can be given to them. Those opinions fall into four primary categories (love, like, neutral, dislike), and they determine how many Trading Points are awarded when the valuable is gifted. The connections between opinions and Trading Points are as follows:

  • Love: 7
  • Neutral: 2
  • Dislike: 1

Additionally, NPCs will repeatedly accept food items as gifts, and they have opinions on those items (and award Trading Points accordingly). However, players will only receive two-thirds of an item's Trading Point value when it is given repeatedly. For example, if an NPC is neutral about a food item, players will receive either one or two points every time it is gifted.

Not only does gifting items lead to the acquisition of Trading Points, it also seems to increase a player's affinity with the NPC, and a weapon will be added to partner NPCs' Trading Point shops after reaching a certain level of affinity. Additionally, there is an achievement associated with hitting maximum affinity with a partner, though earning that requires more than just gifts.

Gift Giving Strategy in Code Vein 2

With the basics of gift giving established, players may now be interested in developing a strategy for earning lots of Trading Points with NPCs. Here is such a strategy, and it can be used with every character:

  1. Start by giving the NPC their loved valuables. Each character has two valuables that they love, and they are listed in the table in the section below.
  2. If you have obtained the recipe for the NPC's loved food item (listed in the table below), and have access to an infinite source of the ingredients that are used to make it, repeatedly synthesize that food item and gift it to the character.
  3. If you do not have the loved food item recipe, repeatedly synthesize Boiled Eggs and gift them to the NPC.

Boiled Eggs are recommended as the go-to repeat gift because they are easy and cheap to synthesize. Indeed, this item can be made from just one Egg, and players can buy an unlimited number of Eggs from the Jadwgia's minion near the Refugee Village mistle in Sunken City (marked on the map that is above) for 50 Haze each.
