Summary

  • The XMG is a top LMG for long-range in Warzone, performing best with specific attachments like a solid optic, the Compensator, the Reinforced Barrel, and the Ranger Foregrip.
  • The GPMG-7, while boasting high DPS, requires essential attachments such as the Compensator for recoil control and the Fast Mag I for improved handling.
  • The PU-21 offers good handling for medium-range engagements, with crucial attachments tailored to improving range and magazine ammo capacity.

Call of Duty: Warzone delivers fierce competition across its diverse roster of modes, from expansive Battle Royale on Urzikstan to fast-paced Resurgence on Area 99. Each map has its own meta, and while Resurgence is currently dominated by top Submachine Guns and Assault Rifles, there is another weapon class that players may want to consider.

CoD Warzone: How To Get The Specialist Pack

Looking to wield every Perk in Warzone at once? Here is how to get the Specialist Pack in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Light Machine Guns, while slower than many other weapon choices, offer unmatched firepower and reliability across long-range engagements. Most of the top-performing LMGs hail from the Black Ops 6 roster, though a few Modern Warfare 3 options have managed to remain competitive despite the shift in the game’s meta. Below are some of the best Light Machine Guns for Warzone, along with the most effective attachments to maximize their potential.

1 XMG

Highly Accurate Light Machine Gun With Long-Range Potential

Best XMG Attachments:

  • Jason Armory 2x (Optic)
  • Compensator (Muzzle)
  • Reinforced Barrel (Barrel)
  • Ranger Foregrip (Underbarrel)
  • 7.62 Nato Overpressured (Fire Mods)

Optional Attachments With Gunfighter:

  • Fast Mag I (Magazine)
  • Commando Grip (Rear Grip)
  • Light Stock (Stock)

First up is a solid build for the XMG, currently one of the top weapons to use in Warzone. The XMG offers a strong set of stats and is an excellent weapon to use in the long-range meta, especially with the build showcased above. Kickstarting the essential attachments is a solid optic, preferably one with increased magnification for long-range engagements. Currently, the two best choices include the Jason Armory 2x and the Willis 3x, leaving which one players go with down to personal preference. Following the optic is the Compensator, which reduces vertical recoil, making it much more manageable when landing shots on a target.

For improved damage and range, players should opt for the Reinforced Barrel which, when combined with the 7.62 Nato Overpressured Mod, extends the XMG's effective time-to-kill range from 35 meters to 52 meters. Finalizing the essential attachments is the Ranger Foregrip, helping with horizontal recoil control and sprinting speed. For those running Gunfighter, throwing on the Fast Mag I provides a 3% reduction in ADS speed, along with the bonus of a faster reload speed without reducing ammo capacity too much. The Commando Grip offers additional buffs to ADS speed along with sprint-to-fire speed, boosting handling. Finally, players can finish off with the Light Stock for improvements to general movement speed and crouch movement speed.

2 GPMG-7

Fast-Firing Light Machine Gun For Excellent Damage

Best GPMG-7 Attachments:

  • Jason Armory 2x (Optic)
  • Compensator (Muzzle)
  • Reinforced Barrel (Barrel)
  • Ranger Foregrip (Underbarrel)
  • Extended Mag II (Magazine)

Optional Attachments With Gunfighter:

  • Light Stock (Stock)
  • Commando Grip (Rear Grip)
  • 7.62 Nato Overpressured (Fire Mods)

Though the GPMG-7 may boast a slightly higher DPS than the XMG thanks to its faster fire rate, its recoil is off the charts in its base version. Its range is also not particularly great, but paired with the attachments above, it can be a decent option. As always, for the first attachment, players can opt for any optic they prefer, but the rest of the attachments are absolutely necessary. To manage the weapon's recoil, players should equip the Compensator to handle the vertical kick and the Ranger Foregrip to mitigate the horizontal shake in its recoil pattern. While there is still a decent amount of vertical recoil, this setup tones it down as much as possible.

Finishing off the essential attachments is the Extended Mag II which, although somewhat counterintuitive given the weapon's slow reload speed, increases the ammo capacity to 100 rounds as opposed to the standard 50. For those running Gunfighter, be sure to include the Light Stock for the highest boost to mobility and the Commando Grip to improve handling just a bit more. For the final attachment, players should opt for the 7.62 Nato Overpressured Mod. Paired with the Reinforced Barrel, the GPMG-7's effective time-to-kill range is extended from 35 meters to 40 meters.

3 PU-21

High Handling Light Machine Gun For Medium Range Gunfights

Best PU-21 Attachments:

  • Jason Armory 2x (Optic)
  • Compensator (Muzzle)
  • Reinforced Barrel (Barrel)
  • Vertical Foregrip (Underbarrel)
  • Fast Mag I (Magazine)

Optional Attachments With Gunfighter:

  • Commando Grip (Rear Grip)
  • Balanced Stock (Stock)
  • 7.62 Nato Overpressured (Fire Mods)

Serving as the last of the Black Ops 6 Light Machine Guns is the PU-21, an option that, while not necessarily boasting the best DPS, is a little more forgiving thanks to its faster aim-down-sight speed compared to the previous options. Much like the earlier builds, players can start their setup with any optic of their choice, with the Jason Armory 2x and the Willis 3x serving as the top recommendations. As for the rest of the essential attachments, the Compensator, Reinforced Barrel, and Vertical Foregrip work well to tone down the weapon's recoil while boosting damage range and bullet velocity.

Finalizing the essential attachments is the Fast Mag I, which essentially brings the PU-21 more in line with an Assault Rifle by providing improved handling and a much faster reload speed. Though these attachments complete a five-attachment build, players using Gunfighter should also equip the Commando Grip to further boost handling, along with the Balanced Stock for the most significant mobility improvement. Lastly, finish off with the 7.62 Nato Overpressured Mod which, when paired with the Reinforced Barrel, extends the weapon's effective time-to-kill range from 35 meters to 46 meters.

4 Holger 26

Great Beginner LMG With Excellent Accuracy

Best Holger 26 Attachments:

  • Corio Eagleseye 2.5x (Optic)
  • Quartermaster Suppressor (Muzzle)
  • Holger Factory Barrel (Barrel)
  • Schlager Tango (Underbarrel)
  • 5.56 Nato High Grain Rounds (Ammunition)

The Holger 26 is not exactly the fastest-killing Light Machine Gun in Warzone, failing to beat most of the Black Ops 6 options. However, with its great level of accuracy, along with excellent handling attributes like quick aim-down-sight and reload speeds, it is one of the more beginner-friendly options. Unfortunately, since it is a Modern Warfare 3 weapon, players will be locked to using only five attachments, but that is more than enough to create a solid build. For the first attachment, players can opt for any optic of their choice, with one of the best options being the Corio Eagleseye 2.5x. As for the rest of the attachments, the following options are the best choices.

Starting off is the Quartermaster Suppressor, which provides reductions to both vertical and horizontal recoil to ensure the Holger 26 remains accurate at range. Next is the Holger Factory Barrel, primarily for its extended damage range, along with an additional buff to bullet velocity and recoil control. The Schlanger Tango or an equivalent underbarrel further improves recoil control, while also adding firing aim stability to reduce much of the visual recoil. Last but not least are the 5.56 Nato High Grain Rounds, which, when paired with the Holger Factory Barrel, extend the weapon's effective time-to-kill range from 33 meters to 45 meters — perfect for the long-range meta.

5 TAQ Eradicator

Heavy-Hitting Light Machine Gun

Best TAQ Eradicator Attachments:

  • Corio Eagleseye 2.5x (Optic)
  • ZEHMN25 Compensated Flash Hider (Underbarrel)
  • Conquer-70 Long Barrel (Barrel)
  • Schlager Tango (Underbarrel)
  • 5.56 Nato High Grain Rounds (Ammunition)

When it comes to overall time-to-kill in the Light Machine Gun category, the TAQ Eradicator is currently one of the top options across all of Warzone. However, it does have a fair amount of kick, which—without the right attachments—can hinder its usefulness compared to easier-to-control weapons in the game. Moving straight into the essential attachments, players should opt for the ZEHMN25 Compensated Flash Hider to mitigate horizontal and vertical recoil, along with the Conquer-70 Long Barrel to extend the TAQ Eradicator's damage and hitscan range. These attachments make it much more versatile at a distance.

To further reduce recoil and improve accuracy, the Schlager Tango or an equivalent underbarrel is a must, ensuring players can stay on target. Last but not least are the 5.56 Nato High Grain Rounds, arguably one of the best legacy attachments in the game. When paired with the already mentioned Schlager Tango, the TAQ Eradicator's effective time-to-kill range improves up to 56 meters — a massive increase from its usual best time-to-kill range of 39 meters. Though the weapon does still boast quite a bit of kick, especially during sustained fire, players will find that this build is a solid addition to the meta.

6 DG-58 LSW

High Handling LMG Assault Rifle Hybrid

Best DG-58 LSW Attachments:

  • HMRES Mod Suppressor (Muzzle)
  • 40 Round Mag (Magazine)
  • Recoil Reduction Buttplate (Stock)
  • 5.8x42 High Grain Rounds (Ammunition)
  • JAK Niteshade Rifle Kit (Aftermarket Part)

Completing this list is yet another legacy weapon, the DG-58 LSW. On its own, the weapon is a heavy hitter. However, with a certain Aftermarket Part, it can become an excellent high-handling rifle with an impressive time-to-kill. For this setup, the main attachment is the JAK Niteshade Rifle Kit, which converts the weapon from a sluggish Light Machine Gun into a fast-handling weapon with a blistering fire rate. However, adding this attachment lowers range, calling for players to use a suppressor like the HMRES Mod Suppressor to increase bullet velocity and damage range by a small amount.

For improved ammo capacity, the 40 Round Mag is a must, paired with the Recoil Reduction Buttplate to maintain accuracy at medium range. Finalizing this build is the 5.8x42 High Grain Rounds, which — much like the Suppressor — helps improve the weapon's damage range. Though this build may not beat many of the aforementioned Light Machine Guns from afar, it does provide one of the best time-to-kill rates in the category up to 24 meters, making it an excellent option to run on smaller Resurgence maps like Area 99.
