Every time a new Evo gets announced in Clash Royale, people half-expect it to be downright broken. Thankfully, with Evo Goblin Cage, the developers broke the trend and gave us a card that feels powerful, but not to the level that it becomes impossible to play against.

That being said, mid-ladder menaces can still make life difficult for free-to-play players with their Evo Goblin Cage in lower trophies. When people don’t know how to counter this card, it can stop big beatdown meta decks by itself. Of course, once you know the counters, you should have an easier time winning against the Evo Goblin Cage in Clash Royale.

Clash Royale: Evo Goblin Cage Overview

The Evo Goblin Cage is unlocked just like any other Evolution card in Clash Royale: by using Evolution Shards. It’s a one-cycle Evolution, meaning you’ll get it every other time you play the Goblin Cage.

The card has a unique effect where it grabs and pulls an enemy troop inside the cage and starts eating away at its HP. During this time, the unit that the Goblin Cage pulled in disappears from the arena.

However, the Goblin Cage can only pull one unit inside the arena, and if the unit has any special ability, like the Electro Giant’s reflected damage, it will still damage the cage. Furthermore, the Goblin Cage can pull in only one unit at a time. If the enemy has Elite Barbarians walking down the lane, then the Evo Goblin Cage will only pull in one of the Elite Barbarians while the other one will be able to hit the cage and take it out. It's one of the biggest counters to most Hog Rider decks, since the Hog Rider usually runs in as a solo troop.

Similar to the normal Goblin Cage, once the Evo Goblin Cage dies, it’ll leave behind a Goblin Brawler, only this time, it’ll also be an evolved version of the Brawler with more HP.

Countering The Evo Goblin Cage

When you’re building up a push, you should already have plenty of troops on the board that can take out the Evo Goblin Cage if it’s unprotected. Swarm cards or cards with multiple units can typically destroy the Evo Goblin Cage on its own. Since Evo Goblin Cage only targets ground troops, air cards also work well against it. Cycle decks in Clash Royale tend to do well against this card, since you can out-cycle it pretty easily.

Like the common cards, you want to pair your ranged rare units with a frontline to tank damage from the Evo Goblin Brawler once the Goblin Cage is destroyed.
