This popular free-to-play game allows players to fully upgrade their deck without spending a dime, but the task of doing so is easier said than done. As you keep upgrading your cards to max out a deck, the biggest roadblock you'll run into is Gold.

While upgrading cards early on requires only a hundred to a few thousand Gold, the cost rises exponentially as you go up. To upgrade a card to Level 14 from Level 13, you'll have to spend 100,000 Gold, which, for a free-to-play player, is a massive investment. Play Regularly

The easiest way to earn Gold in Clash Royale is to play the game regularly. By winning four games each day, you'll earn Lucky Drops, Cards, and Gold as a reward. Each Lucky Drop can also reward you with bonus Gold, which will allow you to quickly save up enough to upgrade your important cards.

On top of that, winning games on the Trophy Road also helps you reach higher milestones. Some of these milestones also give you Gold as a reward.

Participate in Challenges

The Challenge section in Clash Royale is perhaps the most time-efficient way to earn Gold quickly. There are a bunch of different challenges available in the game, from short-term Weekly Challenges and Events to Classic Challenges that are available all the time.

The Seasonal Challenges include rotating events like the Dark Elixir or Hexed Havoc. While the events themselves don't offer any gold, you can take part in the Challenge once it arrives to receive one-time Gold rewards for reaching certain milestones.

The Classic Challenges, on the other hand, are split into three categories. Getting 12 wins in these challenges gives you cards and Gold. You'll need to spend Gems to play Classic Challenge games, but if you manage to secure 12 wins, the pay-off is worth it. Here are the rewards for each of these challenges:

Donate Cards to Clan Members

Joining a Clan is one of the very first things you should do in Clash Royale. Not only does it provide you with a community where you can talk about strategies or play 2v2 battles, but it also gives you a few extra ways to earn Gold. If you're in an active clan where everybody requests donations each day, you'll be able to earn a lot of Gold simply by giving away cards that you don't need.

Each donation rewards you with a bit of Gold depending on the rarity of the donated card. On Epic Sunday, you can also donate one Epic card for more Gold.

If you have a maxed-out card, donating it is free, but you still get Gold for the donation.

Take Part in Clan Battles

Clan Wars is a fantastic way to earn Gold each week in Clash Royale. You can earn 800 gold for each win in a Clan War match, along with Medals for your Clan. Depending on your Clan's position on the leaderboard at the end of the Clan War, you can also get a chest containing massive rewards.

Play Path of Legends

Path of Legends is the alternate game mode to Trophy Road, where players can compete against other players to climb up the leaderboard. The Path of Legends is split into several tiers with the Ultimate Champion being the final tier.

You need to win a specific number of matches to go up the tier, and unlocking each new tier rewards you with a set amount of Gold or Wild Cards. Once the season ends, you get a reward based on how high you managed to climb.

Claim Free Pass Rewards

The Free Pass is a free version of Clash Royale's battle pass that offers plenty of rewards for players to slowly upgrade their cards. To level up your Free Pass, all you need to do is play the game and collect crowns. Crowns are earned by destroying the opponent's Towers.

You'll level up your free pass gradually as you keep playing and winning your games. Rewards in the Free pass include things like Gems, Crates of Gold, Lucky Drops, and more.

Look for Limited-Time Offers

Clash Royale sometimes runs promotional events that reward Gold, Cards, or Lucky Drops just for playing the game and earning crowns. If you're a free-to-play player, then you'll want to be extremely careful with how you spend your Gold in Clash Royale. Here are a few tips to get the most value out of it:

Get into the habit of saving your Gold. It might be tempting to upgrade all your cards any chance you get. However, it's better to save your Gold to upgrade the cards that you're actively using instead of trying to upgrade them all.
Always keep an eye out for donations. Whenever a clan member is looking for a card, don't hesitate to donate unless you're upgrading that specific card.
Remember to claim your season rewards from Path of Legends. The Clash Royale season resets each month.
Check the Daily Deals section in the Shop tab. Sometimes, it'll have free Gold that you can collect.
Don't spend Gold on Tower Skins or Emotes. While those are fun, upgrading your cards will pay off more in the long run.
It's usually not worth buying cards from the Daily Deals section of the Shop unless you can upgrade a card that you're using in your deck.
Don't use Gems to buy Gold; spending it on Challenges offers more value.
