A 9.7 Metacritic user rating puts Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ahead of many iconic video games, including Half-Life 2 (9.0), Red Dead Redemption 2 (8.9), The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (9.1), Super Mario Galaxy 2 (9.0), and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (9.1). While the turn-based RPG has only been out for a few days and its user score could still shift noticeably, it currently appears poised to cement itself as one of the most acclaimed games of its time.
The immense word of mouth that the game is currently enjoying has already helped with its commercial momentum. According to a recent publisher update, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold 1 million copies as of April 27, three days into its release. This is in spite of the fact that the RPG was a day-one Xbox Game Pass title, which ostensibly didn't help boost its sales.
One factor that might be fueling its current momentum is the 10% launch discount that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 recently received on Steam. The offer brings it down to $44.99, and also applies to its Deluxe Edition, which is presently priced at $53.99 on Valve's storefront. Apart from the base game, the higher-tier edition includes six unique outfits, one for each playable character, as well as exclusive outfits for Gustave and Maelle. While there's currently no indication that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will receive any post-launch content, its warm reception suggests that many RPG fans will be keeping a close eye on whatever Sandfall Interactive decides to tackle next.
