Collecting Pictos and Lumina is one of the most important activities in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as the two make or break a character's build. Pictos not only grant a passive that can eventually be learnt as a Lumina, but also give additional stats like Health, Defense, Speed, and Crit Rate.
Among the best Lumina available in Expedition 33 is the one obtained from the Serpenphare boss. This Lumina is costly but completely changes how a character gains AP from their actions. Here's how to find and beat Serpenphare in Expedition 33.
Prologue Collectibles Walkthrough In Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Players will uncover a lot of secrets while exploring Lumiere during the prologue in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33; here are all the prologue missables.
Serpenphare Location In Expedition 33
Players can find Serpenphare floating around in the middle of nowhere on top of water, east of the Forgotten Battlefield area, right behind Sprong in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. To narrow down Serpenphare’s location, players can find it flying between the Boat Graveyard and White Sands areas.
Since it’s flying, players need to wait until Act 3 when Esquie unlocks the flying skill in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Make sure to prepare the team properly for a very hard boss encounter and a fight that may take more than 10 minutes.
How To Beat Serpenphare In Expedition 33
Serpenphare is a very defensive Nevron boss that completely disables the squad's skills during combat. It will take away the characters’ AP and shield itself with multiple shields at the start of their turn, greatly protecting itself. Those moves also prevent the team from dealing high damage since they need to take out Serpenphare’s shields and attack with barely any AP.
The best way to beat Serpenphare in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is to use Maelle’s ability to steal the boss’s shields through her
Barrier Breaker weapon or
Breaking Rules skill. Additionally, use Monoco, who keeps shielding the team with their
Cruler Barrier,
Boucheclier Fortify, and
Sanctuary skills. This prevents the need to keep healing the team at the end of Serpenphare attacks and allows the team to focus more on attacking the boss.
Players can also include a character that applies a buff, like Shell, Powerful, or Rush, then match it with a couple of Lumina that maximize the team’s AP. For example, Monoco’s Boucheclier Fortify gives the team a Shell. Players can equip these Luminas to add these effects:
-
Energising Shell
: Generates 2 AP for the team.
-
Powerful on Shell
: Apply Powerful too
-
Energising Powerful
: Generates an extra 2 AP for the team.
-
Rush on Powerful
: Also apply Rush
-
Energising Rush
: Generating 2 more AP, making it an easy 6 AP from one skill.
Players can do this in any order, so any buff can expand into all of them, in addition to giving the 6 AP to the team, which will allow all characters to hit the strong attacks that cost 8 and 9 AP.
Energising Turn and
Cheater are also a great pair to help characters move more and get more energy for their attacks.
Another way to beat Serpenphare is by letting it absorb AP on purpose. If you keep generating too much AP without using it all, Serpenphare will get overloaded and explode, losing a great chunk of HP and stunning itself in the process. This explosion can be dodged, opening a great window to deal damage and setting the team ready with heals and buffs.
Since the explosion only hits once, you can use a Shield to avoid damage, paired with
Anti-Stun Lumina to ignore the stun effect. Beat the Chromatic Petank to get the Pictos.
