Thousands of Civilization VII players have been given access to some upcoming Civ 7 DLC three weeks ahead of schedule. Unfortunately for those playing the game on PC, Switch, and Xbox, the mistake only seems to have affected the PS5 version of the game, with some of those who benefited from the blunder taking to the internet to share their surprise about the accidental content drop.

Update 1.1.0 was only supposed to unlock Part 1 of the Crossroads of the Worlds DLC, which adds Ada Lovelace, Great Britain, and Carthage to Civilization VII, with Part 2 not scheduled for release until March 25. However, rather than just the first one, PS5 players who bought the DLC or the Founder's Edition of the game already have access to both parts of Crossroads of the Worlds.

Crossroads of the World Part 2 is Scheduled for Release on March 25

Part 2 of Crossroads of the World introduces Simon Bolivar and the Bulgaria and Nepal civs. Bulgaria is an Exploration Age civ, while Nepal is available in the Modern Age. Bolivar doesn't have direct links to either, although he does have some affinity with Bulgaria due to his Militaristic tendencies. Both civs introduce new units and structures and have their own unique abilities.

As of the time of writing, developer Firaxis has yet to comment on the situation, so it's unclear what will happen next. Some series fans are worried that they might try and patch the content out of the game, while others are hoping that they'll roll out the DLC early for everybody in order to even the playing field. They'll likely face a certain degree of backlash whatever they decide to do.

The initial response to Civilization 7 has been fairly mixed, with many players complaining that the game feels rushed and unfinished. The fact that this DLC was ready at least three weeks ahead of its intended launch date when there's still so much to be done with the base version of the game is therefore not a great look, as has already been pointed out by some franchise fans.

It is worth noting, though, that Civilization VII's 1.1.0 update makes a lot of positive changes and fixes many of the issues that players had with the game at launch. It also introduces some free content in the form of the Bermuda Triangle, bringing the total number of Natural Wonders in the base version of the game up to 13. With more free content coming later this month, players have plenty to look forward to.
