Civilization 7 has been one of the most anticipated strategy games of the past few years and it's no wonder why: nearly a decade has passed since its predecessor was released. The game may be well worth the wait, as it introduces a fresh path to victory through Legacy Victories alongside new Leaders and Civilizations to master. With the release date approaching, its publisher 2K has recently been teasing the new Leaders and Civilizations players can pilot to victory.

Each Civilization's specialization encourages players to pursue a particular win condition. For example, pairing Amina with Aksum in the Antiquity Age can set players up for an Economic victory in Civilization 7 because her Leader Ability and the civ’s Civic Tree have special boosts for Gold production and Resource Capacity. Those seeking a Science win may be interested in one particular Modern Age Civilization.

Civilization 7: Trade Routes, Explained

Meiji Japan is a Clear Favorite for a Scientific Win

According to Civilization 7’s official post, the Meiji Era brought immense changes to Japan's economy. It began adopting Western government practices and innovation to rival even the most developed countries during the Modern Age. In Civilization 7, Meiji Japan's path to victory lies in its scientific prowess.

The Bunmei Kaika Civic Tree Uses Military Might to Improve Meiji Japan’s Scientific Capabilities

For players who want to build a decent military force to protect their scientific pursuits, Bunmei Kaika is the logical choice. It unlocks the Fukoku Kyohei tradition, which lets players receive Science equal to the percentage of the cost of training an aircraft or naval unit. This way, players don’t lose out on Science if they shift their production toward improving their aerial and naval fleet first compared to prioritizing buildings like Aerodromes or Launch Pads during the Modern Age. There’s also some synergy between science and military development. The tech trees for scientific projects like Break the Sound Barrier and Staffed Space Flight involve researching Aerodynamics and Mobilization, and this unlocks military units like Battleships and Heavy Bombers.

The Oath in Five Articles Civic Tree Utilizes

Those who want to go all in on a Science victory in Civilization 7 should walk the Path of the Oath in Five Articles. This improves the players’ ability to produce Science buildings. On top of that, this Civic Tree also unlocks the O-yatoi Gaikokujin tradition, which increases Science and Production from Specialist units. Specialists will be abundant for players who go on the Scientific Legacy path. This is because the Exploration Age requirement for the Scientific Legacy involves placing at least four Specialists.

Civilization 7’s Legacy Paths allows players to earn points in Science, Military, Culture, and Economy through different milestones. Completing these milestones can significantly improve one’s chances of success in the next age.

Himiko’s Queen of Wa Persona is the Perfect Leader for a Scientific Victory

Himiko, the base leader for Civilization 7's Japanese Civilizations is poised for a Scientific victory. Her Queen of Wa persona offers a Unique Endeavor: Friend of Wei. Players can use this when forming alliances to gain a 25% increase in Science for Himiko and her chosen ally. This Persona also gains +4 Science for every Leader she helps or is friendly with. Her Agenda also improves her relationships with other leaders when she constructs Science and Gold buildings.
