Civilization 6, the sixth mainline entry into Sid Meier's famous and much beloved Civilization franchise of games, has received massive amounts of developer support over its lifetime. As well as the usual Leader and Civilization Packs, players have been treated to a number of new mechanics, features, and game modes over the Civilization 6's long lifespan.
Civilization 6: Hermetic Order Complete Guide
The Hermetic Order isn't necessarily the best Secret Society in Civilization 6, but it provides a great path toward a Science Victory.
Some of these modes offer game-changing content and unique ways to play Civilization 6, while others are a little less transformational but no less fun. Added in the Ethiopia Pack, the Secret Societies game mode introduces four Secret Societies for players to join, all of which offer unique bonuses to the player's civilization throughout the whole game. Whether it's the mysterious and arcane Hermetic Order Society or the diplomatic Owls of Minerva, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Let's take a look at the mysterious and spooky Order of the Voidsingers.
How to Enable Secret Societies
Secret Societies are unlocked by ownership of the Ethiopia Pack or the New Frontier DLC. However, Secret Societies won't appear in the game unless the specific Secret Societies game mode is selected when setting up a Civ 6 game.
How to Join the Voidsingers
Each of the four Secret Societies in Civilization 6 has a specific, unique way to be encountered. To find the Voidsingers, players need to encounter a Tribal Village. Thankfully, Tribal Villagers are quite numerous at the start of the game, so as long as players start exploring right away, they should be able to come across the Voidsingers pretty quickly.
As with all Secret Societies in Civilization VI, invitation is only the first step. To join the Voidsingers in Civilization 6, the player must purchase their governor using a Governor Title. Once joined, the Voidsingers are the player's Secret Society for the entire length of the game, and they can't opt out of it.
Secret Society Governors don't get assigned to a city like normal governors in Civilization VI. Instead, they provide civ-wide bonuses depending on their level of advancement within their society.
Voidsingers Melody Rank
The Voidsinger Governor will start at the rank of Melody, which grants the ability to the player to build the Old Gods Obelisk building.
The Old Gods Obelisk is a unique Secret Society building that replaces the Monument, a key early-game Cultural building. The bonuses for the Old Gods Obelisk are much better compared to the traditional Monument. The Culture and Loyalty bonuses are excellent, and the Faith bonus can be a massive help in getting an early religion created. The Old Gods Obelisk provides:
- +1 Loyalty
- +1 Culture
- +1 additional Culture if the city is at maximum Loyalty
- +4 Faith
- +1 slot for Great Works
Civilization 6: Difficulty Levels, Explained
This guide will help players decide which Civ 6 difficulty works best for them.
Voidsingers Chorus Rank
Unlike regular governors, whose promotions simply cost Governor Titles and don't require anything else, Secret Society governors can only be promoted once the player has reached a specific game Era. In order to progress the governor to the Chorus rank, the second of the Voidsinger ranks, the player must first reach the Medieval Era. As soon as the Medieval Era is reached and the player has a spare Governor Title, the Voidsinger governor can be promoted to the Chorus rank through the governor screen.
The Voidsingers Chorus rank grants all of the player's cities Gold, Science, and Culture per turn equal to 20 percent of the city's Faith generation. If the player has a decent Faith output, this will grant a huge boost to their civilization.
Voidsingers Canticle Rank
The third Voidsinger rank is that of the Canticle . To promote the Voidsingers to Canticle, the player has to reach the Industrial Era. Reaching this rank will allow players to purchase the Cultist unit, which is unique to this secret society. Cultists reduce the Loyalty of foreign cities and can also create Relics of the Void, a unique relic type. They are a great way to flip enemy cities without war by reducing their Loyalty or by causing rebellions for other players.
Voidsingers Symphony Rank
The Symphony is the last Voidsingers rank in Civilization 6, and it can only be unlocked during the Atomic Era. The reward for progressing so far within the Secret Society is the unique Dark Summoning project, which provides large amounts of Faith to the player's civilization.
- 30 percent of the city's Production is converted to Faith each turn
- Provides +2 Loyalty damage to Cultists (maximum +30, stacked)
The Dark Summoning project is a great way to earn Faith in the endgame. Depending on the specific loadout, players could run the Dark Summoning ritual often, while still being able to build units and buildings thanks to Faith-based purchases.
How to Use the Voidsingers
Each of the Secret Societies is closely tuned to a particular style of play. The Hermetic Order rewards Great Person and Science-based gameplay, while the Owls of Minerva are a strong diplomatic society. The Voidsingers are extremely helpful to players pursuing a Faith-based strategy, although they are also useful for players looking for a Cultural victory thanks to the potential to generate Great Works and Great People.
In terms of specific Civilizations, the Voidsingers pair well with Kongo, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and Jadwiga thanks to their ability to use the Relics created from the loss of a Cultist. But any Civs with religious or cultural bonuses can be a good choice with the Voidsingers because their playstyle directly benefits those who generate a lot of Faith.
With a Grand Masters' Chapel building at a Holy Site, players can use Faith to purchase military units. In the hands of a strong Faith-generating empire, this is a massive tool that can quickly overwhelm other players.
