Summary

  • Cities: Skylines 2's console release has been indefinitely delayed due to technical issues.
  • Cities: Skylines 2 has earned a mixed reception since launch.

Fans of Cities: Skylines 2 have been waiting awhile to see the console release, but unfortunately, they'll have to keep waiting. Cities: Skylines 2 experienced a mixed reception upon its initial release in October 2023, and so far, attempts by the developers to improve the game have been rocky.

Even for PC players, Cities: Skylines 2 hasn't met expectations. The original Cities: Skylines gathered a huge fan base over the years, and players were excited about the sequel. But players were met with many technical issues, and it didn't improve from the original game in the way fans hoped. Because of this, many players turned back to playing Cities: Skylines while ignoring the sequel. However, that didn't stop Colossal Order and Paradox from continuing to improve Cities: Skylines 2 in its attempts to meet the standards of players.

As reported by IGN, after failing rigorous testing when trying to meet stability and performance targets, the creators made the decision to push back the release of the Cities: Skylines 2 console version past October 2024. This means the console version will release over a year later than its PC counterpart.

Colossal Order and Paradox Continue to Improve Cities: Skylines 2

Cities: Skylines 2 has faced numerous difficulties as Colossal Order and Paradox have attempted to improve the game. Multiple DLCs have been released in an attempt to provide players with more options, but it's still significantly less content than the DLC in Cities: Skylines. The quality isn't quite the same either, as the Beach Properties DLC was so controversial that players were refunded for their purchase.

Yet with so many bugs and issues providing updates to the game, it'll be difficult for Colossal Order and Paradox to develop a devoted fan base, as fans may turn to alternatives. Especially for console players, the longer wait may reduce their interest. Colossal Order and Paradox face a difficult situation, but if the company can improve the quality of the game and listen to Cities: Skylines 2 players, it may still be able to maintain a successful franchise.
