Although Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s battle system is quite different from previous games in the franchise, Pokemon natures still play a central role when it comes to combat. While Pokemon with suboptimal natures aren’t useless, they are often severely lacking in effectiveness compared to others in their species.

Players who catch a rare Pokemon with a bad nature will want to know how to remedy this weakness. Fortunately, there is a way to change a Pokemon’s nature using one simple item: Mints.

How to Change Natures in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Although Pokemon natures cannot be changed in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, players can change what effects natures have on a Pokemon’s stats using Mints. A Lonely Mint, for example, will increase a Pokemon’s Attack stat and decrease its Defense stat as if the Pokemon’s nature was changed to Lonely. The Pokemon’s original nature will still be there, but the effects of the Lonely nature will be applied to the stats thanks to the Lonely Mint.

If, for instance, you have a Gyarados with Relaxed nature (+Def, -Speed), but you'd prefer if it had Jolly nature (+Speed, -Sp. Atk) instead, you can feed it a Jolly Mint. After the Pokemon has consumed it, its status page will still say that the Gyarados has Adamant nature, but the effects of Jolly nature will be applied instead. You can verify this by checking the stats page and looking for the red upward arrow and blue downward arrow, which indicate the effects nature has on a Pokemon (pictured above).

How to Get Mints in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Mints can be purchased at outdoor flower stands for 20,000 Pokedollars each. There are 21 Mints available in the game.

17 out of the 21 Mints are being sold at a small outdoor market, near Wild Zone 3 (Rogue Plaza), near the Looker Bureau.
The remaining 4 Mints can be bought at a solitary flower stand just outside Wild Zone 6, at the southwestern edge of the map.

An easy way to identify which shops sell Mints is to look for flowers; these are only stands where you can buy Mint. Each flower stand sells 4 unique Mints and 1 Serious Mint (neutral nature).

To use a Mint, first place the Pokemon whose nature you want to change in your party. Then, go to Satchel > Other Items to find the Mint. Press A and choose "Use This Item."

You will only be able to buy Mints after you’ve completed Main Mission 03: A New Life in Lumiose City, when you unlock free roam.
