Chainsaw Man Chapter 225 set up the return of Power, Nayuta, the Darkness Devil, and/or new Primal Fears, only for Chainsaw Man Chapter 226 to kill all those theories dead – as well as every other devil in Hell, by the looks of it. Picking up where the last chapter left off, Denji and Yoru find themselves in an empty version of Hell with no devils in sight; save for a brand new villain who's actually strong enough to damage Chainsaw Man in a way the War Devil never was.

Chainsaw Man Sends Denji Back To Hell in War Devil’s Final Battle

Hungry to eat some "real devils," Denji descends into Hell as Chainsaw Man Part 2 gets ready to reintroduce Primal Devils and shake up the status quo.

Although unnamed in the chapter itself, the new devil's design suggests that this is the Locust Devil, which would give the new villain a disturbing tie to the Bible's apocalyptic Book of Revelation. Notably, the Locust Devil bears a very similar design to Seraphim, one of Makima's disciples from the end of Part 1. This connection to the Control Devil, and Hell's emptiness, is a massive plot twist hiding in plain sight and could mark the beginning of the end for humanity as Chainsaw Man Part 2 sets up its finale.

It's the End of the World For Chainsaw Man in a Biblical Apocalypse for the Series

Chainsaw Man Chapter 226 is deceptively disturbing. It might seem like nothing of note is happening other than the Locust Devil's introduction, but reading between the lines paints a very different – and horrifying – picture. Denji and Yoru land in a Hell that has nothing. This isn't like when the main characters ran into the Darkness Devil, either. Denji explicitly asks, "Where're all the devils!?" The audience is supposed to be just as surprised as Denji that there are no Devils in sight.

Chainsaw Man Finally Has The Power To Bring Back a Fan Favorite Character

Chainsaw Man has the perfect opportunity to reunite Denji with a fan favorite character and perhaps his greatest buddy: Power.

The lack of Devils in Hell chillingly invokes a Bible passage from the Book of Revelation. Revelation 9:6 reads, "In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them." This is exactly what has happened to Denji. On the cusp of Nostradamus' prophecy about the end of the world coming true, he literally seeks out death in Hell and finds nothing. Chapter 226 doubles down on this allusion by referencing both Reveltion 9:3, "Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power." and Revelation 9;7, "The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men."

In the Bible, there are seven trumpets which herald the end of the world. The fifth trumpet begins with a star falling from the heavens, which could very well be the nuclear weapon Yoru brought back into existence, and the arrival of locusts which endlessly torture anyone who's survived up to this point. As of the end of Chainsaw Man Chapter 226, the locusts are on Earth, and while Denji managed to behead the Locust Devil, all signs point to this being the start of a much longer battle that could realistically end with humanity's end.

The Locust Devil is Stronger Than Chainsaw Man and The War Devil – & That Should Terrify You

The Locust Devil appearing alone in Hell is jarring enough as is, but the fact this devil is strong enough to nearly kill the War Devil and actually hurt Denji as Chainsaw Man means that something is very wrong. It's possible the Locust Devil ate the other Devils in Hell and has become stronger than it should be. With the world on the cusp of ending, there's no more fitting herald for the apocalypse than a supremely powerful Devil who can beat Denji at his own game. The Locust Devil even manages to slice off Denji's arm to the point he cries out in pain.

The situation would only be made worse if the Locust Devil is indeed Seraphim, as it could indicate the Control Devil is still in control somehow and that Denji will have to come face to face with her. Seraphim is never seen again after his appearance in Chainsaw Man Part 1, so he likely did not die during Denji's attack on Makima. Even if the Locust Devil has no connection to Seraphim, he's been set up as an even stronger enemy than the War Devil, and has a real shot at killing not only Denji, but every human on Earth. For mankind's sake, Denji and Yoru will need to team up to defeat the Locust Devil, but only time will tell where Tatsumi Fujimoto is taking Chainsaw Man in this apocalyptic endgame.
