Cattle Country, an upcoming Stardew Valley-like game with a Red Dead Redemption twist, will be released on May 27 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Developer Playtonic Friends accompanied the announcement with a trailer showcasing some of the charming, Stardew Valley-style locations in Cattle Country, offering players a glimpse of what to expect from this new “cozy cowboy adventure life sim.”

The indie farm sim hit Stardew Valley has inspired a large number of games over the years—not only because of its quirky and engaging gameplay, but also for its unique, cozy style. The relaxing atmosphere created in Stardew Valley, along with the many farming and social activities players can take on, combined with the creative freedom it offers, are some of the things other developers have tried to emulate—and that’s the case with Cattle Country. But Playtonic Friends also took a page from the Red Dead Redemption playbook by adding a Western twist to the game. Now, those who’ve been following the game’s development journey can finally look forward to its release.

8 Best Farming Simulation Games Of The 2020s, Ranked (So Far)

So far, the 2020s have had no shortage of amazing farming simulation titles, thanks to the genre's explosion in popularity.

Cattle Country will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch starting May 27. To help ease the wait, the developer has re-released the game's demo, allowing players to get a first impression of Hill Valley. Cattle Country doesn’t try to hide its clear Stardew Valley and RDR inspirations, as the trailer announcing its release date features Arthur Morgan’s voice actor, Roger Clark, narrating what players can expect in the game. Some of the things Clark—doing his cowboy voice—teases include different seasons, festivals, races, relationships with townsfolk (including romance), and more.

But Cattle Country isn’t just about living a quiet, peaceful life in town like in Stardew Valley—the influence of the popular Red Dead Redemption franchise shows up in the form of bandits. Players will need to keep an eye out for shady characters who threaten their peace and community, and they’ll have to defend themselves from attacks by robbers and killers.

Other features in this upcoming western version of Stardew Valley include building homes to survive the environment, helping neighbors with various tasks, exploring the town’s mines for treasure, hunting animals for food, and venturing through the game’s diverse landscapes. Cattle Country promises to deliver a highly appealing experience for life sim fans and Stardew Valley enthusiasts craving a fresh spin on the original formula.
