Cat Assassin, a new game starring Dave Bautista, received its very first teaser trailer. The Gamescom 2025 video introduces the titular character, Hugh, and provides several glimpses at Cat Assassin's gameplay.
Cat Assassin is a neo-noir stealth action adventure set in a world populated by anthropomorphic cats. Originally announced in June 2025, the upcoming game is developed by Toronto-based Titan1Studios and Dave Bautista's production company Dogbone Entertainment. Bautista also plays the titular role in Cat Assassin.
Cat Assassin Gets First Teaser Trailer at Gamescom 2025
Cat Assassin has joined the growing list of Gamescom 2025 announcements with its very first teaser trailer, which premiered on the opening day of the convention, August 20. The brief video opens with Dave Bautista giving an overview of the game, then transitions into a cutscene that appears to have been rendered in-engine. "There's two kinds of things in this world: the things you leave behind and the things that follow you," the Bautista-narrated protagonist says, adding that he belongs to the latter category.
Near the end of the video, a few glimpses of gameplay are shown, featuring the protagonist performing parkour-like maneuvers. This aligns with Titan1Studios' prior confirmation that Cat Assassin was partially inspired by the Assassin's Creed franchise. Splinter Cell was also cited among the game's influences, particularly for its tactical espionage elements, while the developer pointed to Sifu as a model for delivering similarly fluid combat. In practice, the game will be designed like a roguelite, with every death sending the protagonist back to early adulthood while his targets reincarnate. This structure is designed to make the path to completion unique for every player.
The Gamescom 2025 video also helps establish the neo-noir world of Cat Assassin, featuring some clever wordplay for the names of its many in-universe businesses, such as "Whiskers and Whiskey" and "Nine Lives Insurance." The game's plot was penned by Steven Lerner, the writer behind the critically acclaimed story of Stray. According to a brief synopsis shared with media outlets, the upcoming title will seek to balance its dark and twisted city setting with a healthy dose of humor.
There's two kinds of things in this world: the things you leave behind and the things that follow you... Me, I follow.
Cat Assassin is presently without a release date, or even a launch window. Titan1Studios previously said that the game was coming to PC, as well as "console and handheld" platforms, leaving everything from the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to the Nintendo Switch 2 as possibilities. The exact list of target platforms, however, has not been officially confirmed yet. Cat Assassin is meant to mark the start of a new media franchise that will include multiple video games and an animated series.
