After the first Castlevania series aired, fans of the show got to know that the Belmont family is a legendary family that has fought and defeated monsters for generations. Even the name Belmont strikes fear into the hearts of monsters. However, one such Belmont was promptly killed at the beginning of Castlevania: Nocturne. And that Belmont was the mother of Richter Belmont, and as a child, he witnessed her death at the hands of a vampire. Richter would flee to France after the vampire spared him, where he started residing with Tera and her daughter. However, the memories of the night when his mother was killed continue to hunt him. Despite his nightmares of the past, Richter would go on to take part in the French Revolution alongside Maria as the people turned against the corrupt Marquis. Unfortunately, the Marquis is now a vampire, and he welcomes the vampire messiah. As they face an all-powerful messiah, Richter and Maria lose the battle against her and hastily retreat. However, the messiah is not so merciful as to let them go.

The Son Of Dracula

Adrian Tepes, known more popularly by his moniker Alucard, is the son of the vampire Dracula. Because Alucard spelled backward is Dracula, many seem to think Alucard and Dracula are the same person; however, the Alucard portrayed in the Castlevania series is the son of Dracula. As a person, Alucard inherited the best of both worlds when it came to his parents. As Dracula marries a human, Alucard is half vampire and half human. This allows him to retain his vampire abilities while being able to walk in the sun like humans. Like most vampires, Alucard is a skilled and dangerous warrior, albeit a kind and compassionate person. Even after the humans unjustly killed his mother, he went against his father, who planned to commit genocide against the humans. Although he grieved, Alucard protected the humans and teamed up with Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades to end Dracula.

Alucard’s Role In The Original Castlevania Series

Alucard

In the original Castlevania series, Alucard served as one of the main protagonists alongside Trevor and Sypha. After the death of Alucard’s mother at the hands of humans, his father, Dracula, decided to punish the human race for their transgression. Despite his grievances with the humans, Alucard refused to allow Dracula to commit genocide, and he was strongly opposed to his plans. Unfortunately, Dracula refused to listen, and their verbal opposition quickly turned physical. And so Alucard and Dracula fought. However, Dracula was much stronger than his son, and Alucard lost. Alucard then slept in a coffin to heal and restore himself to peak condition while he awaited the prophesized hunter and scholar who would fight alongside him. After meeting Trevor and Sypha, Alucard tested their resolve by battling against them, and after determining they were up to the task of facing Dracula, Alucard introduced himself and his cause, to which they joined. Although Alucard and Trevor were initially at odds due to their different views on vampires, they eventually warmed up to each other and became brothers in arms. Now banded together, the trio set off to face the leader of the vampires. However, as Dracula’s castle was ever-moving, they had to find a way to lock it in place. To do so, the trio had to make their way to the Belmont Keep, where they could find ancient texts to guide them on what to do.

Alucard's Surprising Return In Castlevania: Nocturne

Alucard

As Castlevania: Nocturne is set hundreds of years after the original Castlevania series in which Alucard was originally portrayed, few expected him to make a return, especially in the last episode right before Richter was about to be killed. However, as Alucard is a half-vampire, it makes sense that he is still alive. Moreover, as vampires have begun to commit genocide against humans like Dracula once did, Alucard may have returned to stop it and once again fight alongside a Belmont. As Alucard appeared during the last moments of the Castlevania: Nocturne series, fans will have to wait until the release of season two to know fully what role he will play in the series. However, regardless of the role he plays, seeing Alucard, a character from the first Castlevania series, make a surprise return in a time of peril makes fans already excited about what the series has in store.

Castlevania: Nocturne is available to stream on Netflix.
