The Boruto manga is full of twists and turns that fans never expect to happen. One such thing is Momoshiki’s desperate attempt at resurrection by implanting a karma seal into Boruto at the very last minute. Now, Momoshiki lies dormant within Boruto, who’s unsure when his archenemy will resurface in Two Blue Vortex. This complicated body situation seems to mirror Naruto and Kurama’s arrangement, but can Boruto and Momoshiki form a similar bond?

By now, almost everyone is aware that Naruto and Kurama became the best partners after overcoming difficult battles one after the other. While they started on a rough patch, they eventually opened their hearts, leading to their many memorable wins in the series. However, with regard to Momoshiki and Boruto's bond, is it possible for them to become the next Kurama and Naruto duo in the Boruto manga?

How Boruto and Momoshiki's Bond Differs from Naruto and Kurama

Momoshiki’s Hostile Takeover

Momoshiki Otsutsuki is a recurrent character in the Boruto manga, often making an appearance in the most intense situations. After he was defeated by the combined forces of Boruto, Naruto, and Sasuke, he immediately implanted a karma seal on Boruto in an attempt to resurrect sometime in the future. However, things take a sudden turn when Kawaki impales Boruto, ultimately removing Momoshiki’s chance to take over Boruto’s body.

From the very beginning, Momoshiki acted like a parasite within Boruto’s body. Instead of seeing Boruto as a partner, Momoshiki remains hostile towards him, using his powers to cause chaos not just for his enemies but also for his allies. Unlike Kurama, who learns to appreciate and understand Naruto through their shared pain and suffering, Momoshiki often mocks Boruto, insulting his humanity and dragging him down over and over again.

You should be honored. You will become part of the Otsutsuki legacy. The chakra you have will soon be mine, and with it, I will achieve god-like power. You won’t even be remembered. - Momoshiki Otsutsuki

Perhaps the only thing that is similar between Momoshiki and Kurama is their intention to protect their host, but in incredibly different ways. While Kurama is willing to protect Naruto, including his dream, even at the cost of his life, Momoshiki only wants to prevent Boruto from dying to ensure his resurrection one day. After all, once Boruto dies, Momoshiki’s soul will also die.

Momoshiki’s True Intentions for Boruto

As of writing, the Boruto manga makes it clear that Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s end goal is to resurrect and take control of Boruto’s body. He also wants to fulfill his original mission of raising a God Tree in the human world and eating its chakra fruit, much like any other member of the Otsutsuki Clan. Most likely, his ultimate plan is to ascend to godhood, following in the same footsteps as Shibai Otsutsuki.

That said, Momoshiki has no reason to care for Boruto unless he’s on the brink of death. He only sees Boruto as a vessel, selfishly using his powers in the process, unlike Kurama, who genuinely cares about Naruto’s well-being. On the contrary, Boruto also has no reason to show any sympathy for Momoshiki, who caused him so much trouble and pain. Perhaps if they look past their differences, they could at least find common ground one day.

Is It Possible for Boruto and Momoshiki’s Bond to Change?

Can They Form the Same Bond as Kurama and Naruto?

For now, it seems unlikely for Momoshiki and Boruto to form the same bond as Naruto and Kurama, given their hostility toward each other. Not only do they hate each other, but they also lack trust and respect. Momoshiki only wants control, while Boruto would do anything to stop him. Although there are some fans who believe their relationship may develop as they conquer battles together, many fans still argue they have no reason to depend on one another and create a more balanced co-existence.

Still, there’s a fair chance that Boruto and Momoshiki’s relationship will improve. Now that the threat of the Human God Trees has become more serious and dangerous, Boruto and Momoshiki may have no choice but to work together to survive and defeat their common enemy. Who knows, maybe they could forge a more harmonious relationship that is built out of mutual survival in the Boruto manga.
