Summary

  • Fans are concerned that the return of Verdansk in Call of Duty: Warzone won't capture the magic of its original release in 2020.
  • New gameplay mechanics and weapons over the years have players worried that Verdansk's comeback won't be the same iconic experience.
  • Activision has confirmed that Verdansk will return in Spring 2025, with a recent leak pointing to a release with the game's Season 3 update.

Verdansk is officially returning to Call of Duty: Warzone later this year, but some players are concerned that the iconic map's comeback "won't be the same." Activision announced last year during a COD: Next event that the very first Call of Duty: Warzone map would be returning in 2025, but as its release gets closer and closer, players are realising that map's return probably isn't going to feel like the glory days of 2020.

Since the launch of Warzone back in March 2020, each new mainline Call of Duty game has been fully integrated with the popular Battle Royale title. From the rebooted Modern Warfare series to the latest Black Ops entry, each title has brought new seasonal content, features, and big gameplay changes to Warzone. Unfortunately, not all of these integrations have been a hit with fans. With many of them bringing new Battle Royale and Resurgence maps to Warzone, each new release has had fans yearning more and more for the return of Verdansk.

The Call of Duty: Warzone community discovers a handy new glitch that sends players flying across the map with just a few simple steps.

Call of Duty: Warzone Players Concerned Verdansk "Won't Be the Same"

After the huge success of Fortnite OG, plenty of other live-service titles have followed suit. From Apex Legends to Overwatch, more and more multiplayer titles are beginning to return to their most iconic eras, usually for a limited time. Call of Duty: Warzone is the next title to follow the trend, with Verdansk set to return later this year. However, fans are concerned that despite the huge anticipation, its return "won't be the same." Verdansk became an icon in the Battle Royale genre back in 2020, but with Call of Duty: Warzone's massive evolution over the years, a plethora of new gameplay mechanics and weapons has players concerned that Verdansk's return will be in vain.

In a new post on Reddit, user ScreamyV said they are "forcing" themselves to believe that Verdansk's return to Warzone will "feel and be the same," but admits that "in reality," it won't. Other users appear to agree, with Reddit user Ok-Hornet-1313 stating that Verdansk was "another level of gaming" and believes that feeling can't be captured on the newer version of Warzone. Another user pointed out that Warzone "plays way too different" when compared to the original days of Verdansk and also has drastically different gameplay mechanics.

Aside from a vague Spring 2025 release window, there's no official word from Activision as to when the map will return. However, a recent leak suggests that Verdansk will launch alongside Warzone Season 3. Sadly, with Season 2 still over a week away, this means fans will likely be waiting quite some time for the map's return. Although there's no confirmation on the release date for Season 3, given the usual length of each Call of Duty season, Verdansk could be returning sometime in March. That's if the recent leak is to be believed.
