Summary
- Call of Duty: Warzone might see a new SMG in Season 3, possibly the return of a fan-favorite gun.
- Promo art hints at the Spectre or Kiparis SMG from previous games, sparking speculation among fans.
- Fans reacted positively to the return of traditional modern tactical gear in promo art, hinting at a back-to-basics approach.
Eagle-eyed players of Call of Duty: Warzone might just have spotted a new weapon slated to be added in the upcoming Season 3 update. Call of Duty: Warzone is on the verge of entering its third season in the era defined by the mainline game Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Though the Call of Duty franchise is decades old at this point, one could argue that the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone has taken over as the face of the series. While individual mainline games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 set the agenda for new Warzone additions, many fans, especially those who prefer Warzone's battle royal gameplay, often see those games in terms of their impact on Warzone first. And with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 3 beginning soon, a new wave of additions and changes is coming for Warzone as well.

One of those changes could be the addition (or return) of a fan-favorite gun, if fans are correct. Players in the Black Ops 6 Reddit community are scrutinizing a gun seen in promotional art for Warzone Season 3, saying that the weapon could be a hint that the Spectre, Kiparis, or another popular Warzone SMG could be returning from previous games. Alternatively, Warzone and Black Ops 6 could see an entirely new SMG enter the rotation when Season 3 launches on April 2, 2025.
Call of Duty: Warzone Season 3 Possible SMG Return
The weapon in question is one seen in the hand of Domino, one of the new Warzone Season 3 Operators. According to post creator RangeUsed6663, though Domino's helmet obscures most of the weapon, its shape and features indicate that it could be the Spectre SMG from 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops or the Kiparis SMG from 2020's Black Ops Cold War. Some players agreed, though one commenter suggested that the gun could be the OTs 9, also from Cold War. The OTs 9 was one of the most popular guns of the Warzone Verdansk era, so its return could be a way to satisfy fan demand.
Some suggested that the SMG could be an entirely new design, not based on previous Call of Duty weapons. While replies conceded the possibility, some suggested it wasn't likely, as an entirely new original weapon would be more likely to appear in both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, while the promo art was for Warzone-exclusive Operators and gear.
Other fans reacted to the promo art itself, praising the decision to bring back operators dressed in traditionally realistic modern tactical gear, rather than the increasingly over-the-top character designs of recent Call of Duty eras. This back-to-basics approach, exemplified by the return of the Verdansk map itself in Warzone Season 3 suggested, in their estimation, that Warzone could be set to recapture what they liked most about earlier eras of Warzone and Call of Duty.
