With the Season 5 Reloaded update for Call of Duty fast approaching, Activision has pulled back the curtain on the new content coming to both Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone, including even more controversial new operator skins. While Call of Duty continues to release vibrant and wacky new bundles for players to purchase each season, die-hard fans of the series believe this is ruining the franchise.
Like most popular live-service titles, Call of Duty releases new content in the form of seasonal updates. Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone's Season 5 update once again brought new multiplayer maps, modes, weapons, and more to the smash-hit shooter, with even more content set to be released with the game's mid-season update, known as Season 5 Reloaded.
Call of Duty Players Accuse Black Ops 6 of Fake Pre-Orders
PlayStation users accuse Activision of misleading players by marking some individuals as having pre-ordered Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
On August 21, Activision will release the highly-anticipated mid-season update for both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Warzone. Although it will mark the end of an era for fans of Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, the update will also include a new Warzone game mode known as Supreme Resurgence and another cel-shaded map variant for Modern Warfare 3. But Season 5 Reloaded is already being bashed by fans as it will once again include a handful of new operator skins that many believe don't fit into the overall theme of Call of Duty.
More Weird and Wonderful Skins Are Coming to Call of Duty
From a colorful-looking slug to Bill Skarsgard's take on The Crow, the release of Call of Duty Season 5 Reloaded will once again divide the community and include a plethora of controversial operator skins. After CharlieIntel posted the new skins on Twitter, users quickly mocked the new operator bundles, with one saying that Call of Duty is a "joke." Twitter user HunterTV also said that they "need Treyarch's cosmetic team back," which is a reference to the upcoming release of Black Ops 6, which will be handled by Treyarch Studios.
This isn't the first time that Call of Duty fans have been outraged by new operator bundles, and it likely won't be the last. As die-hard fans of the franchise will remember, older entries in the series often took a more serious and grounded approach when it came to new cosmetic items, but in recent years Activision has opted to take a more Fortnite-esque approach with unrealistic and outlandish bundles for players to purchase.
With that being said, there's still plenty of content coming to Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone with Season 5 Reloaded that players can look forward to. For those who prefer the fast-paced antics of multiplayer, a new cel-shaded variant of Stash House will be put into rotation, while multiple new and returning game modes will also be released with the mid-season update. As for all the Warzone fans, Rebirth Island is getting a new game mode known as Supreme Resurgence, as well as new battle royale contracts for players to complete.
