The announcement of Warzone Mobile caused massive hype in the Call of Duty community, as players speculated about the potential for revolutionary crossplay across mobile, console, and PC. However, details regarding cross-platform functionality for Warzone Mobile remain unclear, leaving prospective players uncertain. This comprehensive guide explains if WM will indeed feature crossplay or if it’s going to remain a far-fetched dream for Battle Royale fans.
Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile iOS Pre-Orders Available Now
iOS users are now able to pre-order Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile on the App Store and claim a number of milestone rewards for free.
Warzone Mobile Crossplay Explained
As the title suggests, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is a mobile-exclusive game with no crossplay features. Players can only team up with and compete against other mobile users. Essentially, WM will have dedicated servers separate from PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S versions.
Here's why Warzone Mobile can’t support crossplay:
- Warzone Mobile is optimized for mobile devices. Graphics-wise, it can’t match up to the PC and console versions.
- Currently, the game’s multiplayer map is Verdansk, which is absent in MW3 and Warzone 2.0.
- Activision plans to have Warzone Mobile as an extended Battle Royale experience rather than a replica.
Will There Be Crossplay Between Phones and Emulators?
Judging by Activision’s decision for Call of Duty Mobile, Warzone Mobile will not support emulator crossplay. PC players using mouse and keyboard will likely be grouped and hosted separately.
Also, note that the game is in the Limited Release stage, and the developers haven’t announced any plans for supporting emulators.
How Cross-progression Works in WM
Although Warzone Mobile won’t support cross-platform multiplayer, it will feature cross-progression. With this option, most unlockable items will be shared across PC, console, and mobile accounts. For instance, unlocking a new Operator skin will make it available on MW3, Warzone 2.0, and Warzone Mobile.
List of every item that will cross over from mobile to other platforms (and vice versa):
- Battle Pass progression. Players will be able to advance Call of Duty’s seasonal BP across all platforms, unlocking the rewards for all of them.
- Weapons and Blueprints. Once a gun or its blueprint is unlocked, players can use it on all the cross-progression-supporting games.
- Skins & Cosmetics. Camos, Operator outfits, and other cosmetics unlocked in any of the games will cross over to the others.
- Friend List and Chat Channels. Warzone Mobile players will access their MW3 and Warzone 2.0 friend lists.
- Emblems and Calling Cards. Achieving these items in one game will grant them in others as well.
A chain-looking icon next to Warzone Mobile items indicates that they are cross-progression-friendly.
