One of the newest additions to Call of Duty: Warzone seemingly pokes fun at the difference between mouse and keyboard users and controller users. The debate regarding fairness between the two methods of play has long been a hot-button issue in the gaming world, with Warzone now making light of the situation with a new unlockable reward as part of the game's Halloween event.
In the years following its release in 2020, Warzone continues to be a behemoth in the free-to-play battle royale genre. The game has seen numerous updates and improvements over the years, with new weapons, vehicles, skins, and maps consistently added to the title. With both Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone entering their next seasons, players have been given a plethora of Halloween goodies to enjoy as Fall officially kicks off. The Haunting Season 6 includes a variety of Halloween-themed content, including the Purgatory game mode, holiday-themed map variants, and several new rewards, with one in particular sparking a discussion online.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Get Big New Update for October 2024
The Call of Duty team unveils a plethora of new changes, tweaks, and fixes for both Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 in two new updates.
Reddit user Shibeuz noticed one of the new rewards included in Warzone's Trick or Treat event, which makes fun of the debate surrounding using a mouse or controller in FPS games, specifically Call of Duty. The new reward reads, "HaHa, When in doubt, blame aim assist," seemingly poking fun at players who blame controller users for losing. "Devs got inspired by this sub for one of the rewards in the Trick or Treat event," said the user. This debate about the better or "more fair" way to play continues to rage on, especially now that more games are implementing crossplay.
Warzone Makes Fun of Complaints from PC Users
For years, the mouse and keyboard setup was the preferred method when it came to playing FPS titles, as the genre rose to prominence thanks to computer games like Doom. However, with the introduction of more modern franchises like Halo and Call of Duty, controllers have become the choice for many players. Due to the popularity of home consoles, controllers were eventually seen as a standard part of the FPS landscape, though the introduction of crossplay has complicated things. Now, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC players can all play together, meaning titles need to be calibrated to account for all methods of play. Some now argue controller users have an unfair advantage, with the debate continuing in other games like Final Fantasy 14.
Despite Warzone already being home to a plethora of content, many players are looking ahead and wondering what the free-to-play battle royale will look like with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 later this year. The upcoming title is developed by Treyarch, with Black Ops 6 marking the longtime Call of Duty developer's first main project since Cold War in 2020. Black Ops 6 will seemingly take place shortly after the events of the Cold War, planting players in the early 1990s. Players already got a taste of what to expect with Black Ops 6's multiplayer mode thanks to an open beta earlier this year, though the game's Zombies and campaign modes are still mostly under wraps for now.
