The midseason update for Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone arrives, signaling the final one before Modern Warfare 2 launches in October. It's likely a bittersweet moment for fans as the final season, also known as Last Stand, is about to reach its conclusion both in narrative as well as the content that is going to be released. However, the pattern here isn't unique as traditionally, each Call of Duty title is given a year's worth of content before the next mainline game is launched.
The interesting aspect here is that the midseason update is not only the final one for Call of Duty: Vanguard, but the still very popular Warzone as well. As many Call of Duty fans got a first taste of Warzone 2 just a few weeks ago, development has shifted to its successor to ensure that the mode is ready to go right out of the gate. However, before Activision officially moves on, Last Stand still has plenty of content for players to check out.
For Warzone fans, a new game mode called Resurgence Supreme is getting added to Rebirth Island and is available for Solo, Duos, Trios, and Quads. During this mode, the map is filled with epic or greater rarity items including fan-favorite weapon blueprints shifting the focus more towards skill rather than having a great loadout. Raven has fine-tuned the game mode for competitive play by increasing player health points, removing "extraneous items" and doubling rewards for actions to encourage more active play.
For Call of Duty: Vanguard, the Fortress map has been added into the game, letting players run around a crumbling post-apocalyptic Mediterranean fortress surrounded by a maritime graveyard. Fortress has been described as a map that supports any play style and features a number of long sights, tight hallways, and ambush points.
Again pulling content from past games like Call of Duty: Ghosts and Black Ops, two new operators have joined the active roster. Commander Gabriel T. Rorke, the antagonist from Ghosts and ex-Marine, can be unlocked by purchasing his bundle and prefers to use the newly added Lienna 57 LMG. On the other hand, Seraph is a cybernetic Enforcer of the 54 Immortals and opts for BP50 fully automatic and high fire rate assault rifle. By using the operator and their preferred weapon, players can gain a bonus to operator and weapon XP.
Naturally, a new release also brings new bundles to the in-game store. These include a Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Pestilence Ultra Skin Bundle, which features two legendary blueprints, Green Phlegm Tracers, and more. Next up is the Realm of Anubis Mastercraft Bundle which also comes with an Ultra and Legendary weapon blueprint, Egyptian Blue Sand Tracers, and more accessories. Finally, the Elegant Threat Pro Pack comes with COD Points, weapon blueprints, the “Dark Opulence” Legendary Operator Skin, and more.
With the update set to arrive on September 28, it gives players a full month to play and unlock any remaining challenges, skins, or other items before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 officially hits shelves.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
