Season 5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone is starting on August 5, and it's chock-full of exciting new content and features. Some of the most exciting new additions will be added game modes that have something for everyone.
Season 5 has a ton of new multiplayer options, but doesn't skimp on Warzone content either. The new game modes will be Bare Bones, Search and Destroy Double Down, and added Challenges for every player. Each mode is meant to build on and add to existing experiences players can get in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, with a focus on streamlining combat and providing more opportunities for tactics decisions.
Bare Bones is a rotation of Team Deathmatch, Domination, HQ, Hardpoint, and Kill Confirmed that keeps the same rulesets but with one huge difference. Kill Streaks, Field Upgrades, and perks have been nixed from Bare Bones so that players can enjoy a pure combat experience instead of focusing on supplementary assets and conditions. Meanwhile, Search and Destroy Double Down is a game mode derived from classic Search and Destroy, with the teams attempting to rig their enemies' weapons cache with a demo charge. The key difference is that this new mode is twice as big: 12v12 rather than 6v6, leading to more "tactics and chaos."
The Modern Warfare Challenges make multiplayer even more fun for a lot of players, and Warzone players can enjoy progressing through the game via this feature as well. Season 5 will improve the Challenges experience with a tab that helps players streamline their progression through the Ranks with Daily, Weekly, and Mission Challenges. The new season will also see "over a dozen" Mastery Challenges for the best players in both Warzone and Multiplayer. Players can visit the Barracks to look at their Rank Progression section and view all seasonal ribbons and Officer Challenges. Maxing out Officer Ranks can even grant a "unique weapon blueprint."
The new game modes offer a variety of challenges and experiences for Modern Warfare players. Search and Destroy is a longtime fan favorite in multiplayer, so it makes sense that Activision would focus on improving that experience even more given how many people play it. Of course, if people end up preferring the original, that one is still around. But doubling the amount of players will create opportunity for new tactical decisions, so trying out Search and Destroy Double Down is worth a shot at least once.
Season 5 will bring a lot of new content to Modern Warfare, including a new Battle Pass System, new weapons, four more multiplayer maps, the Stadium opening up in Warzone, match types, and hints at an unknown mid-season event. While they wait for August 5, players can preload the update and read up on what features they're anticipating most.
