The 2020 edition of the Call of Duty franchise has yet to be announced, as support for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare continues well into 2020. But leaks and discussion about the game, said to be in development at Treyarch, continue regardless. The latest news regarding Call of Duty 2020 comes from esports player Chance. The pro Call of Duty player tells fans in a recent Reddit thread that they should get "excited" and "get behind" Treyarch and its next project.

"Stay hopeful guys," is how Chance starts one response in the thread, acknowledging frustrations in the community regarding Call of Duty competitive esports. "The devs are really interested in making next year a great year for competitive and I'm being 100% serious," is Chance's eventual promise. Given pro players' consistent criticism of how developers treat Call of Duty's competitive environment, that's a surprising promise.

Naturally, the community's first response is to distrust what Chance is saying. One poster says that Chance's comment sounds a lot like what pro players say every year, as developers are routinely inviting pros to check out games prior to launch. "Please tell me this isn't the usual yearly comments," is the poster's general idea.

But Chance doubles down. He says that he met with Treyarch to discuss their "competitive philosophy," as well as other things he wasn't willing to get into. He then asks players to be supportive of the developers at Treyarch and to spread positive energy.

Chance unfortunately doesn't elaborate regarding why he's excited about the next Call of Duty game. He is still likely bound by an NDA, however, and probably shouldn't have even said what he did. Call of Duty fans are still likely to remain skeptical due to Chance's unwillingness to be forthwith on the topic, though. The fanbase for competitive Call of Duty has very complicated feelings about the franchise.

Little may be known about the next Call of Duty game officially. However, there are some leaked details about Treyarch's next project. To start, it's supposed to be revealed at the Sony PS5 event that was recently delayed. The game is also supposed to be another iteration on the Black Ops series, though not a direct sequel. It'll also feature a more traditional single-player campaign and multiplayer mode than recent Call of Duty releases. This is all rumor until officially confirmed, of course, but nevertheless it's something to look forward to.

Call of Duty 2020 is planned to launch this holiday season.
